My God and goddesses

Postby SMushroom » Thu Jun 03, 2010 6:24 pm

I was wondering if i had to pick a god or goddess to base all my witchcraft on? like my friend has one that she pays a lot of attention to. do you have to “pick one” or can you worship all? I’m not really sure how it works. Most of the time I just say “…god and goddess..” not a specific one when im casting a circle or something.
yaa :/ some help please

I'm the same way; however, I think it's whatever you are comfortable with. My best wiccan friend focuses on isis and osiris. So I think it's just what you feel is right.

Just some added input... :)

I personally don't focus on a specific God and Goddess. But hey, maybe I just haven't found the right ones yet. If I'm praying for a certain thing, I'll probably look for the God and Goddess that can best help me. But mostly I just use the generalization of God and Goddess. BB.

It depends.
Some people put focus on a deity based on the content of the spell.
Others develop matron and patron deities.
Usually they come to you when your ready, until then you can do just fine calling out the God and Goddess as a whole.
If you call out a specific one, be careful, make sure you don't offend or what have you.

Some witches don't use deity at all in their workings, so there's no rule that says you HAVE to choose a god or goddess.

Yeah,I too, just invision "the god and goddess",and i guess if your a christian witch you'd just pick "god" as it would be the only divine spirit you believe in.So yes, whatever works for you :]

Those coming from a more Roman Catholic background will use Mary as the Goddess-form. Protestants don't put the emphasis on Mary that Catholics do.

What I personally do, is if a spell isn't best covered by the Goddess and God I make my worship central to, say like a home spell, I find the best Goddess in the pathenon that my Matron and Patron are in. (Which is Celtic). So I would naturally cast the spell focusing on Bridgid rather than Cerridwen. And you don't have to even do that, you can pick and choose Goddess' from all panthenons, working with the ones that will best carry out your spell. I chose to worship a Goddess and God that are near universal so I wouldn't have that problem.

I also found that the Witches and Wiccans that worship Hecate don't really need to venture from her, as she is a Goddess of Witchcraft, and would assist with any spell.
