Hi everyone. I have started learning about Wicca and just can't believe all the information I must learn!Anyway I am very interested in Hecate and would like to get to build a "relationship" with her.
What are some of your experiences working or contacting her? I have tried to introduce myself to her, and I have felt a presence but I am not sure that it was necessarily her.
Any shared stories will be greatly appreciated.

Well, what kind of a relationship? Are you talking matron relationship or just to call upon her whenever?
The matron thing is very personal and the deity chooses you, most people don't know which it is or even which pantheon until they've reached a milestone on their path. Usually they are produced in a dream, by either an animal counterpart, a smell associated with them or something else. I was told of mine by a tarot reader.
As for information about Hecate, here is some information I have in an encyclopedia of spirits.
(I will give you an excerpt since her entry is like 2 1/2 pages long.)
Hekate
The most lovely one; worker from afar;
three headed hound of the moon; influence from afar; the one before the gate; light bringer
Also known as: Hecate
Origin: Asia Minor
> She is involved for justice, especially for sexual crimes against women and girls.
>Hekate is involved when justice is not forthcoming from other channels
>She has the power to grant or deny any mortal wish
>she may be involved in the protection of or from dogs.
>She can be petitioned for fertility.
>She brings victory in battle.
>May be invoked for healing that western medicine has failed at.
>swift painless death
>banish or produce ghosts.
She is considered to be an exceptionally powerful spirit, in some mythos she is seen as being the handmaiden to persephone. This magnifies the view of control over birth-death and transformation.
She has an affinity for plant knowledge.
She responds via visions and dreams to most questions.
She can take the form of: snakes, dragons, cats and especially dogs.
Favored people: midwives, witches, healers, herbalists, dog lovers and rescuers. matron of women in general and protects those who ride horses.
She can appear: as a mermaid, a woman with snakes in her hair, any form of the moon (maiden, mother or crone), a black dog, black cat, snake, or dragon.
Iconography:
Three bodies in different directions. Three animal heads, a dog a horse and a lion. The 8th century BCE shows her with wings, carrying a snake.
Attributes:
Key, torch, cauldron, knife, broom
Emblem: star and crescent moon
Spirit allies:
Artmeis, persephone, demeter, and or kybele. she sometimes dances with dionysus.
Sacred animals:
Snakes, toads, dragons and cats but especially dogs. she has an extremely power bond with dogs. She usually comes with two dogs, one on each side, if she is without dogs there is still a canine reference in her behavior.
Bird:
Stork
Mount:
Dragons pull her chariot
Color: Black
Number: 3
Celestial bodies: Sirius the dog star, the moon especially dark moon phase.
Plants: Garlic, mandrake, lavender and henna
Trees: Pomegranate, black poplar, date palm, yew.
Sacred places:
Cross roads, three way or T-shaped. She is also still the guardian of Istanbul.
Time: Night. only acceptable illumination: candles or torches
Sacred dates: last day of each month.
>in itlay August 13th, she shared it with diana
>friday the 13th in august especially
> november 16th is hekate night for modern wiccans and neo-pagans.
Rituals:
Hekate supper, usually with fish. The leftovers were placed in a crossroad to be consumed either by her or the homeless.
>Place offerings on a plate or flat stone and leave them at a crossroad after dark
>Invoke her walk away and don't look back.
>do not return for the plate, it is part of the offering. If you hear a dog or encounter one. You have been heard.
Offerings:
Eggs, garlic and honey, croissants and crescent shaped breads/pastries. candles .incense, images of dogs especially black dogs, actions on behalf of dogs.
Phew. That should give you a lot to learn about!

If you're trying to build a relationship with her and you're feeling a presence it could be her or one of her "servants", observing you trying to decide if you're worthy of what she what she gives to those who she gives her attention to.
In my opinion, the gods give their attention to those they feel are worthy. The best you can do is study everything you can about witchcraft, every type of witchcraft as she is a goddess of witchcraft and occult knowledge, and whenever you do anything spell related or gain/strengthen abilities, make sure to thank her as she is one who makes those abilities and knowledge available to us. If your serious about your studies, she will give you her attention and her knowledge.
Also, that whole 3-faced or triple goddess thing as her physical being, I've never seen her that way and that was something that she was later depicted as and I really think that aspect of her is just a way to say that she is a goddess for all ages and all people who wish to gain her knowledge, just not one type like most gods tend to lean towards.

They say only Silver Bullets kill the beast inside.....
Thank you so much you two. You have been an incredible help.
Release the bats- I have added the information you have provided to my BOS on my desktop ( I haven't made a formal one yet) I want you to know that I truly do appreciate you taking the time to answer my question in detail. It means a lot to me.
(´-`ᦀ- thank you for your input. Although I felt a presence, I am not going to assume it was actually Hecate. I figured it was just some other type of being that was hanging out in my room at the time hehe.
I will definitely continue to study all I can, and maybe perhaps leave her offerings on my altar. I was also considering buying some Hecate oil (someone was selling some on Etsy)to anoint a silver or black candle to honor her.
What really attracts me to her is that she represents all the mysteries of a woman. Sometimes she is cast in a negative light because perhaps because she so powerful, but to me she is just complex. She also has a fondness for dogs, which is also something I can relate to (I wonder if I get points with her because I am also a Dog in the Chinese zodiac
)
In any case, I will continue to explore her and this path and maybe she will take me under her wing.

Hecate
Hi Fernview, I think you should do what your heart tells you and it sounds like you are doing that. I like your idea of Honoring Her with the candle and oil. I am guessing that She will like that too because you sound genuinely interested in Honoring Her and Learning from Her. It is not so much about the candle and oil itself as it is that you have chosen to Honor Her with something that you hope will please Her.
I have found Her Path to be quite challenging at times but very rewarding and well worth it. The Life Lessons I have learned from Her are invaluable. When you feel strong enough to learn one, ask Her and in my experience She will not fail you as long as you maintain Integrity, Resonsibility, Love and Courage. She has always Protected me and occasionally She comes to me as Powerful as She is with Gentle Reassurance and Love. It is then that I know that I am on the right track with things no matter how discouraged I am getting and it is then that I remember the most how much I really love Her. She is Powerful, Wise and Loving. She has taught me so much...

Good advice. I killed one of her "Children" lives ago. Still cursed.be careful though hecate can be baneful at times, she is swift to curse those who strike at her children and dosent take insult well, she is also the goddess of the crossroads or the underworld in some traditions i pray to hecate everynight to keep baneful spirits from me and to smile upon all that i do, though recently i called on her because a certian person was tearing into my life so i prayed to hecate to remove them and do whatever she saw fit, next day that persons garden was tottally over run with rodents, scorpions, and snakes. not what i intended but i got my piont across. so just be wary and respectful
She can hold a grudge, that's for sure.

No need. The strangest thing just happened....hmmm really? ill ask her tomo to release it. im sure you cant be punished for something you did in a past life. not your fault....kinda lol.....not sure what to say haha if it is or isnt you didnt have control yet you did this kinda tthing makes my head whirl
Someone just shows up and tells me I have basically "served my time."
Except she's trying to tell me something else and i don't know what it is. -.-
This is all so interesting. I am fascinated by Hekate and in awe at the same time. Being a woman who has suffered horrible injustices, some being sexual assault, having a love for dogs - I actually have a Service Dog named Shadow (I didn't name him, but it's so fitting!) who happens to be a black Labrador, I feel that there could be a powerful connection and bond with Her. I am still very new to Wicca and have very much to learn, however, Hekate, is definitely someone whom I want to be worthy enough for!
I have prayed to Hecate for quite a while now. I have found that She is quite vengeful to anyone who harms a child. I work at night and have time to be out on my break. That is when I feel the most connected to Her. She is the Maiden, Mother, Crone Goddess, which encompasses all of the Great Goddess.
