For the longest time, when I was still working with the neo-pagan Goddess-God model, I identified and connected much more to the Lord then the Lady, whom I didn't connect with at all.
The Gods we worship write their names on our faces; be sure of that. A person will worship something, have no doubt about that. We may think our tribute is paid in secret in the dark recesses of our hearts, but it will out. That which dominates our imaginations and our thoughts will determine our lives, and our character. Therefore, it behooves us to be careful what we worship, for what we are worshipping we are becoming.

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

As believers in the folk-religion we are studying, we seek after mysteries that expand the scope of our gods and our understanding of them, not reductionist theories that reduce them to manageable and socially productive "functions".

The Norse and Greek pantheons, the former because I am of Norwegian ancestry, and both because because my patron is Odin and my Matron is Athena.

I think the popularity of the Irish and Egyptian pantheons is quite a bit faddish, they certainly do not call to me. I think if one is truly interested in the Celtic stuff one should do a lot of hard research and avoid fluff like DJ Conway's books, because much less is known about Celtic spirituality compared to the Norse, Greek, Roman, and Egyptian traditions.

Yes, I totally know what you mean Dark.

I look at the Deity's as aspects of the Divine, I personally look at them as individuals as they all have their different personality's and qualities but that's because it helps us relate better to ourselves and the Divine. Through them we find it easier to communicate and get closer to the Divine, if that makes sense lol. As I've stated before though, IMHO, All is One!

Blessings!
So...then, do you believe that they're individuals, or aspects of one. you sort of say both here, so it's impossible to tell what you actually mean.
Argh, this is a hard one to explain. I believe they are all aspects of One (they all lead back to the Divine), but the Divine sends them to us each with their own traits and personalities, as individuals if you like, so we can make more sense of our own traits, and they give us the chance to get closer to the Divine (our path to Enlightenment), but actually they are all as One, they are apart of the Divine just as me and you are.
So say if I call upon Aphrodite (Goddess of Love) for example when I'm looking for a new partner in my life, the reason I chose Her for this type of spell is obviously because she is most appropriate for this type of working, but she is the Divine, just as all the other Goddesses and Gods are, hence why I mean All is One. It's hard to explain, especially to others. This is my personal view only and the best way I can put it is, The various Deity's are shadows all cast from the same flame. They all come from the same fource. However this does not mean they are not individuals as they are, but we're all One, we're all shadows cast from that one Flame, the Divine. We all have parts of the Divine in us, we're apart of it. We are partners with the Divine to create the Universe. Only the Goddesses and Gods are up there with Enlightenment, where me and you are way down the ladder, we're apart of it still, but I believe we'll only get closer to Enlightenment after we're gone, and in the life after that even closer, until eventually we're back to where we began, apart of the Whole.

Hope that's helped, and if it makes no sense to you, well it took me some time to work out too lol, but I'm glad I figured it in the end :D We all have our own views though, some will totally disagree and others will agree but this is not a topic for debate on that subject.

Blessings!
Being a pantheist my views my own views are very, very similar. Great post! My main difference is that IMO the "lesser" gods and the demigods are not archetypal expressions of the Souce, but are ascended people (not just humans, but any sapient species in the universe). Many Astral spirits are also such beings, but they have not ascended as far and evolved spiritually.

I haven't met anyone that refuses to practice on the dark moon....
But I also worship Cerridwen, Welsh equivalent of Hekate. I accept the Goddess as the Goddess of all things, good and bad.
I cast spells involving "reduction" (such as losing weight or defeating illness) just before New Moon because that is when such spells are the most powerful

Heh. Calling on Fenris is like calling on the nuclear warhead that will annhilate earth. He/It isn't a guardian of anything.
Ja!!!!! Calling on Fenris is NOT a good thing, it's essentially calling forth Ragnarok!!!

Being of Irish decent, I am just naturally drawn to Celtic Pantheon... though that doesn't mean I am not open to others... Like if I need help with working out, I'll pray to Thor to instill a warrior spirit into me... and then I'll take in some Creatine... Or if theres something related to the sun, I'll pray to Apollo.
Just looking for the answers to life.
)O( Blessed be

Hey :)

I have always been drawn to the egyptian pantheon, and after working with them for a while I have come to realize that my patron is Anpu (anubis). Their pantheon to me is so unlike any other, they are more connected with us in a way and certainly let you know they are there and when you are doing something they dont approve of!!! I have often had little taps on the shoulder, so to speak, by Anpu when I am doing something that is wrong or not good for me hahaha He truly is an amazing god and am closer to him than any other male god I have come across.
However I can't just stick to the egyptian pantheon, even though it may be easier sometimes! It has always been very obvious who my matron is and she is APhrodite, many people comment on the vast contrast between my matron and my patron but to me it brings the perfect balance. I can be a very passionate person and often get hurt by love, so Aphrodite helps me with the ways of my heart, and when at times I get lost in the passion Anpu is always there to offer me a guiding hand and lead me back home :)

I love both of them unconditionally and I think that once you find your matron and patron they are the best friends you will ever have :) x

Greek! =D
Although I do tend to dip into others. For instance, I pray to Ganesh for luck, but for most other things I choose Greek gods or goddesses.

Mostly Egyptian, but a few others I find commonalities with. Like Ganesh, Amaterasu, Inari, and Herne.

German, not necessary Norse. My patron goddess is Frau Holda.

Mostly Greek, but some Phrygian and some Germanic as well.
I'm drawn more to the older Greek dieties. I don't really worship Zeus or Hera, Persephone's my big one. I'm partial to Dionysus and Apollo as well, but I don't work with many Olympians.
I'm more connected to Nyx, the Fates, the Furies, Selene... Not sure why. It just worked out.

I personally have a lot of trouble with the Greek pantheon in particular. Just because I've read so much Greek mythology, and read a lot about how fickle and sometimes mean-spirited they can be.
I think of the God and Goddess more in terms of things they represent specifically to me. I personally think that all the Gods and Goddesses are simply representations of the one. So all Goddesses are one, and all Gods are one. This makes it hard for me to really specify which one I most identify or connect with, when I think that they're all simply aspects of the same deity. I do consider the Goddess Luna, though, because I think of the moon most often when thinking of the Goddess.
I'm still developing my conceptions of them, pretty much all the time. So these things might change, but I still think I'll always have trouble with the Greeks. Darn you college mythology classes!

The pantheons I'm drawn to are the Egyptian [Set, Sekhmet, Bast, Anubis] and Norse [Freya, Thor, Odin, Loki]. Then I also feel close to Morrigan [Celtic] and some of the Greek Gods. I think Hades and Zeus, Poseidon are awesome. My main God is Set [Egyptian]. I'm being pulled in all directions.

I feel drawn to a few Goddesses (mostly Isis, Aradia, and Selene) (: but no real ties to any Gods and no pantheon either

I don't follow any gods or anything, but I always say I have respect for Freya, given how she claims her body as her own, and I (used to) work in the sex industry. She was my patron saint of taking my clothes off for money! ;)

Otherwise, the Celtic pantheon, in the fact they're the most rich in stories of the fae. And if I follow anything, it's the faeries.
