Is there really any singnificance with cats in witchcraft? Or is it all just media created?

Cat can be your familiar and help you with spells and so on. They can be just in the spiritual world (spirit guide) or in physical (your pet). so it`s not just media created....

I have a book on cat magick (The enchanted cat, Ellen Dugan) and it`s really nice if you`re interested in it :)

I have also read that Cats specifically can smell/see witchcraft, forces, auras in the air, also the intentions, plus a very edgy theory is that they can even listen to your mind, but definetely its not media created, I would say that the media is inspired by the history of the cats and used it in movies (such as Catwoman-were the cat, is Goddess Bast herself)

I agree with Greek and Moira, but familiars are not limited to just felines, they can also be other animals it's just that the cat companion is the most commonly seen familiar, in child stories, movies, poems, either a cat or a raven or other large dark bird, but it can also be a dog, snake, even a horse, but that's just my opinion :D

In the old days it was said that witches could turn into cats and to see one meant you were cursed.
Nowadays we know that the cat is a sacred animal and worshipped in several religions all over the world.
Bast(et) is one of the better known goddesses concidering cats. She protected cats and their owners and brought joy and pleasure.
Freya had a chariot that was pulled by two large felines. She was the lady of magick, further linking cats with magick.

If a cat (or any animal) wears a bell around its neck it will cleanse the air everytime it rings.

Just some notes on cats :) I love cats

Bless
