Can you help me Find my Deities? Questions

Postby Moonstream » Mon Aug 20, 2012 1:54 am

Hey everyone! :28: lilac1
So I've been doing some research lately about all sorts of deities, and I've also watched this really cool video on youtube by Pagyptsian on how to find your patron deities (couldn't find the video just now, though, otherwise I would have given you the Link)
Anyhow, I wanted to ask some questions about deities/gods/goddesses.
1) Can you worship/follow deities from different cultures? For instance, I am very interested in celtic goddesses and norse gods. Is it, i gues you could say allowed to worship both celtic goddesses and norse gods?
I know most about the simple God and Goddess, that most people worship. I have tried connecting with them but I feel as if I do not properly believe them.
2) I am much more keen and interested in female deities, but not male ones. Is that normal, since I am a girl? I value equality in gender, but so far none of the male gods have caught my attention. This kind of bothers me. Ive heard of some wiccan traditions that worship only femail deities. But my question is, is it normal for a girl (especially one who lives with her dad only) to be more interested in female deities? Or will she become more interested in male deities once she has found a matron goddess? Because strangely I feel no need for a patron god, even though I know it would be more balanced to worship one as well as a female deity. Am I being confusing? Sorry if i am :?
3) do wiccans HAVE to worship a deity?
i know all religions should have traditional gods/goddesses, but I was wonering if it was possible to just believe in faeries or spirits that inhabit all of nature? because if it is possibloe it gives me more options.
please reply! :) and share your ideas and tell me about the god/goddess you worship :)

Hi, I haven'y found my patron deities yet, and I'm quite happy with just the Goddess and God at the minute. Saying that I have researched different deities and also read what others say about patron deities and what I understood id that its ok to have deities from different cultures if they are the ones who connect with you because in the end its how you see the Goddess and God and its personal and different for everyone (if I have that wrong I'm sorry and I'm sure someone will correct me!)
Also, I was the same with being more connected to the Goddess than God. I'm not sure why, maybe it is because I'm a girl. But recently I've become more involved in studying/learning again and I've found that with a little bit more effort I can find the God too. SO maybe it is just about connecting more with who you need at the moment, and that when your a little older (your only young right?) you will be able to connect more with the God (its how it happened with me).
As to having to worship a deity, well I'm not entirely sure. I've never had a problem with the concept of a deity or with worshipping them (maybe because I was brought up catholic) so I have never really considered looking for alternatives. But what do you mean it will give you more options? if you believe there is a Goddess (and God) I'm not sure you can or should ignore that because it would be easier/less complicated (sorry if i misunderstood though).

1) Well this depends on what conventional idea you follow, as far as I know there are three different answers concerning this question, Wiccans that believe there is one true pantheon (often Egyptian), Wiccans that believe that each God and Goddess is a singular deity that might or might not like to be worshiped together and Wiccans that believe that all the Gods and Goddesses are but representations of the true God and Goddess.

2) Dianics worship only the Goddess and leave the God out of all they religious practices but aside from that it is in fact very normal for a girl or boy to feel more at ease with the Goddess than the God, especially just starting out.
For one we have to deal with all the Abrahamic religions that really don't leave a good impression of a strong male deity and second the God has a much different energy from the Goddess. When I just started out with Wicca the God actually felt weird to me, maybe even frightening because he has such a primal energy, the mother too but she is somehow more comforting.
This feeling can either grow on you or you can leave it, there are many people who believe that the God, since he is born from the Goddess, is actually a part of her and that by worshipping her they are worshipping them in tandem so you should do what feels right to you.

2) Well this is where we draw the line between Wiccans and Witches, where Wiccans follow the religion and Witches don’t have to follow a deity. However, there is such a thing as Fairy Wiccans and Fairy Witches that work with the Fea folk on an almost religious level, you might look them up. There is another ‘exception’ if you will… Certain Wiccans do not worship a ‘deity’ but instead worship the earth as it is the perfect representation of the mother. They do not have deity directed rituals and spend their time taking care of the earth and communing with earth spirits.

I hope you found this helpful in any way :D

Blessings
