Dear Moonlight...You certainly are a warrior as is your whole family. I feel for you, and this question has come up so many times for so many people. Why do some struggle and and not survive, why is God doing this? Disease is a real mystery and why are some folks singled out where others are not? Some would suggest there is a lesson in there somewhere to be learned, but to me that seems very harsh. Many people have done what you did and asked God to remove them from the planet in order to spare a life, unfortunately, or fortunately it doesn't work that way, The Goddess, perhaps saw that you son would be well, and knew that would not be a good switch, ...I do not know why the universe works in ways that are baffling,...part of the mystery perhaps, because if we did know, I think things would be a lot different in the world. It is indeed very sad the friends you made while your son was recovering who had children that did not survive. This is something we would not wish for anyone, and I don't believe there is a punishing God/dess, because those who have harmed another human perhaps are more deserving of punishment, and they never get theirs. I do hope you will be able to stay in touch with the folks you met during this very trying ordeal, because we are generally brought together for a reason, even if we can't see what it is at the time.
I wish I had something more solid to give you. Did you ever find the Unitarian Church near you? or if you are looking for a Pagan group I could send you a link...what is the biggest town near you?
Blessings to you and your family and your dear Grandma, that was good news for her to take to the ancestors.

I have defintely felt very similar to you. I have lost a child and both my parents. When my husband had a heartattack and was dead for 4 mins. Scariest and loneliest moments of my life! During these times (before the deaths & while they shocked my hubby to get him back) I prayed just like you did, pleading with whatever Deity would hear me. Instead the opposite happened, even with my husband because he is still a functional alcoholic which was half of why he conquered medically what he did. it is crazy how our physical lives work here. Even for those of us who are divine, those are things we will never see clearly. We as Pagans, Celtics, Wiccans and the like do positive and things like this still happen. Unfortuntely things like this are just meant to be and in our individual journey. Everything happens for a reason and we may not learn why till much later. When I lost my son, I wound up blessed with my 2nd daughter. When I lost my parents, I had to move and got away from drugs & alchohol. My husband is still a mystery, however but him and I work together every day on the issue. Regardless of what life dishes out, even in the hardest of times, the Deities do listen. Mysteries can turn into miracles. My blessing to you, your son and family!
