How did you decide on what gods were right for you?
Re: How did you decide on what gods were right for you?
I agree with a lot of the people here. I didn't pick them. I was picked.

I came to the Goddess and panentheism through reading on feminist spirituality. Reading Carol Christ's books, Rebirth of the Goddess and She Who Changes, really opened my eyes to the divine; it felt like it confirmed everything I knew and valued and believed in, and then some. Christ has a really different understanding of the Goddess than pretty much anything else I've ever read - traditional views on deities have always felt foreign to me, so this opened up a whole new way of seeing the world. They're really beautiful books; I highly recommend them to anyone who's interested.

Re: How did you decide on what gods were right for you?
About 7-8yrs ago I had changed the items on my altar as I acquired new items for it.
I'd imagine most of us have changed the look and feel of our altars...
My first "real" altar had a statuette of Mother Earth I created from the adobe dirt I
acquired from one of the camping trip with Mom at Slab City...
A dream with Isis in it, calling me...
Next night I dreamed of giving birth to a child with no pain...
There's a street in Niland called Isis...
Movies and programs had references to Isis and who she is...
A book I'd been wanting to get off Amazon for quite awhile, The Mysteries of Isis...
The book just called to me, I
The first page read that when you feel a body rush at the very thought of Isis then
She is the one meant for you. Not to mention when I got the book a friend of mine
ordered the same book for me...I don't believe in coincidences !
I don't do the whole Egyptian thing, I just have her as my Goddess...
Who knows, maybe I'll do the whole Egyptian thing later *shrugs*

I've always had ths same God/Goddess since I was a little child. I just didn't have a real personal relationship with my All-Parent until I became pagan. I worship Elohim, which by definition means duality of male and female, or I say singularly, Shekina (female) and El Shaddai (male).
My personal proofs are my majick and prayers being answered. The miracles that have happened in my life. All those "A-ha!" moments when earlier I didn't understand things. Feeling his/her presence in the room. My strong intuition....That's how I feel Elohim is right for me.

Isis is my Deity I knew she was right for me from the get-go. A select few here know the situation with my 7 & 12 year old daughters. Bluntly put I have joint custody with their dad, he has residential. We live 100 mi apart now. A lot of things have happened in the 5 years since I moved away, many fall into a somewhat alientation on him over me and the girls. Since accepting Isis as my guardian things have slowly begun to change. For those who do not know Isis she is the Mother Goddess. She perfectly fits my situation.

I think whoever fascinates you, or calls on you at the moment, is a god/goddess you should work with. I have always been fascinated by Isis but I have not felt her "call" me the way that Venus and Hecate recently called me. (You can see here for the thread I posted when they called me - http://www.everythingunderthemoon.net/f ... hp?t=24630)
That said, I feel as though I am more devoted to Isis than anyone else due to my admiration of her many aspects and my fascination for Egypt ever since I was a kid. I have been devoted to her for years since I first read about her. Then I found out her birth is celebrated on July 17, which makes her a Cancer like me, and explains her devotion to family and motherhood. Like Lillady, I am also a mother of two which makes Isis more relatable to my life. And that is why I am more connected to her than any other deity.
So it really boils down to whoever you feel closest to
