Multiple Gods/Goddess worship ?
Multiple Gods/Goddess worship ?
Merry meet everyone !
I was asking myself if it was "acceptable" to worship two, or even three Gods or Godesses at the same time? While I strongly believe thatI am linked to Lugh, when I read about Dyonisus, I felt a strong surge of energy coursing through my body, and it revigored myself. I don't know if it is known to worship to Gods though.
- for the personal story, I've always read about Dyonisus. H was the only Olympian God I was attracted to, and in every book I've read, a feast is depicted in his honor-
Thank you and blessed be!

Re: Multiple Gods/Goddess worship ?
Yes, it's more than acceptable. It used to be so common that monotheism was the minority.

I call on a pair for each quarter, and Cerridwen and Cernunnos in the center, I think the joy of being Pagan is that we can call on whomever we wish at anytime or anywhere, and commune with as many as we wish

I didn't expect to be called by multiple deities, but Bast, Sekhmet, Freya and Loki have all become part of my life.

Thank you for all your answers !
Even if I never read anything about not worshipping different Deities, to read a lot about people having aonly one couple of God and Goddess made me think so.
It's relieviating to be able to follow such links and calls to different Deities.

Many Wiccans as well as pagans worship a mulititude of gods and goddesses. Depends on the pantheon you follow. There is no set number. You have as many gods and goddess as you want

I am always never not broken.
Re: Multiple Gods/Goddess worship ?
It all depends on the importance to you. Not just the number but your core beliefs as well. I have always held an importance for the dark and light inside everyone, accepting it as a part of life. When I was calling upon my patron and matron deities to reveal themselves I was originally expecting 2 calls, but instead I received 4. The 2 original deities came forth and explained that they have alter egos, separate Gods/Goddesses, that represent the other side of the coin and if I want to honor them, then I should respect all aspects of them.
But, ultimately, to each their own and you should never feel ashamed of the outcome, no matter how much it differs from the norm!

The more the merrier !
. I thought at first I would only worship one God and one Goddess, but I guess they have different plans for me. Lately I feel like I'm being pulled in all different directions.

Re: Multiple Gods/Goddess worship ?
In history most religion's and belief systems had multiple deities(Ancient Egypt in it's 3000 year time span, accepted some neighbouring deities and myth's into their own religion despite some high contradiction's), and with Wicca and Pagan belief's allowing you to pick from most of history's deities, it would be normal to feel attraction to more then one, as some are as similar and different as our own collection of personality traits, experience's and emotion's.
Re: Multiple Gods/Goddess worship ?
Im going through this now. I have worked with Ganesh and Lakshmi for years but want to find deities from the Gaul region.
I think that they each have different attributes that can lend to different workings, spells etc.
Ganesh I use to help achieve goals etc as he is the remover of obstacles
Lakshmi I use for drawing things I want to me, as she is the goddess of abundance and prosperity.
I do healing work, and am now looking for a God and Goddess that were healers and more connected to nature. Im also feeling very drawn to Apollo right now. But not sure why, or if he is for me. Also looking at Belenus.

Hello,
as other people have said some deities like Dionysus are part of a polytheistic religion so even in their heyday they would not have been worshiped exclusively. Also as I'm sure you know, in polytheistic religions it was common for a God or Goddess to be responsible for one thing e.g. Poseidon and the sea so typically this deity would mostly receive prayers relating to their 'specialty' for lack of a better term. Maybe you would like to consider certain types of prayers/rituals etc for one deity and other type of prayers/rituals to another deity.

You could worship with more than one god and/or goddesses, but it depends if it matches some of your personalities.
Re: Multiple Gods/Goddess worship ?
Each of these responses is correct. Keep in mind our beliefs are one that when you personalize and tweek it things can rule in your favor many time. WHat i mean here is as you have read some believe you can only follow one, others believe you can follow more than one, neither way is wrong it is a personal thing. Deities can come and go in one's life based upon their needs. For example, I never felt drawn to any until last year when I was going through a battle with my ex and trying to get my kids more often. During my struggle, Isis (the Mother Goddess) called onto me one evening as I was meditating. She sought me through that and helped me and is still with me. Here recently Hecate has been reaching out to me. I am still trying to figure out the reasoning behind it though. I hope you understand. Blessed Be.

Re: Multiple Gods/Goddess worship ?
Yes it is acceptable to worship multiple Gods and Goddesses. That is what Polytheism is. Many people worship multiple Gods. I know many members of traditional Wicca that worship Gods outside the God and Goddess of Wicca. They do so seperatly however as the practice is not the same and the deities are not the same. This is done out of respect for both cultures.
I would advise you however to not mix and match pantheons in ritual. There are many cultures that were at war with each other. The Norse and the Celts were at war frequently so mixing their energetic forces in ritual would probably be asking for trouble. Other cultures would have never interacted in the past and doing do today could have interesting repercussions.
I would for example worship Bast separate from a ritual with Freya which would be separate from a ritual with Hecate. Many pagan religions have emerged where people work to recreate as best possible in modern life how old the older religions worked. While you don't have to follow those specifically, it can be useful to research those religions to see how those Gods were honored and try to honor them that way.
There are however some deities and pantheons that can be mixed and matched well, because those cultures mingled historically. The Greek, Roman, and Egyptian pantheons are an example of this. There have been found Temples in Egypt along trade lines where there were inscriptions to Greek deities as well as Roman deities. These three cultures mingled together and existed together. In some instances new deities could have been created from this combination of worship. The God Hermes Trisgestus is an example.
So basically do a lot of research into the mythology and lore of the culture as well as the actual history of the area as well.
