Brother studied Wiccan; is what he says true?

Postby Clairsentient_Wolf » Tue Aug 11, 2015 11:04 pm

I've done my own research but there are so many variations of the Wiccan culture that I'm not sure where I should find solace.

My brother and I talked tonight because he was studying a lot of religions at one point and he described Wicca to me in this way: Basically there is a God and he is a horned goat like creature and then there is a Goddess that has no specific image. She is what you think she is. Neither of them symbolize evil; only the witch or warlock can decide if they are of white magic or dark magic. Spell casting is a normal part of the Wiccan culture but not everyone practices that (AKA me).

Most Wiccans are delighted to be part of the white magic group and very few are a part of the dark magic group. We worship the earth and Mother Nature, which is very similar to Christianity and Satanism except that we do not recognize Satan in a word. We recognize "Satan" in Christian terms as the dark magic force.

There is the "All/One" .
The god and goddess are equal but are just reflective of the male and female energy of the All. Some prefer to work with this energy as just god/goddess. Then there are some that work with specific traits in the form of named gods. Not everyone associates the male energy with Pan.

Most wiccans would never call themselves evil or practice what is considered black magic. It completely goes against Wiccan teaching to produce so much negativity and depending on how you view "the law of three" can produce some pretty unfortunate consequences.

Magic in itself is neither black or white.
Everything lies in your intent.

It's important to remember that although Wicca has only been around for a short time, it has split off into many different traditions. How a Wiccan views deity, and which deities a Wiccan might worship are not always the same, although yes, a horned God is common (not always one depicted as a goat, but yes, sometimes that way).
Neither of them symbolize evil; only the witch or warlock can decide if they are of white magic or dark magic. Spell casting is a normal part of the Wiccan culture but not everyone practices that (AKA me).
You're unlikely to find a Wiccan who self-identifies as a warlock. Many Wiccans also don't bother with the terms white or black magic, magic just is. Yes, the majority of Wiccans do practice witchcraft - although to be clear, not all witches are Wiccans.
We worship the earth and Mother Nature, which is very similar to Christianity and Satanism except that we do not recognize Satan in a word. We recognize "Satan" in Christian terms as the dark magic force.
This is a bit confusing to me. How is worshiping the earth and mother nature similar to Christianity or Satanism? Many Wiccans don't really recognize Satan at all, and certainly would not believe in some force of dark magic, or anything like that. It's just not a Wiccan view to see two "forces" against each other, as one might find in Christianity. (Satanism is a whole different misunderstood topic in itself.)
