Aradia

Postby Lord_of_Nightmares » Fri Jan 01, 2016 10:46 pm

Does anyone love Aradia? She is an Italian witch goddess who is considered the daughter of Diana and Lucifer. ( In the book published in 1899 (Though it dates to earlier. Took at least 2 years to publish.) "The Gospel of Aradia", she is a messianic figure who comes to teach oppressed/poor people witchcraft. (It's a mix of traditions.) In the Gospel, all of Diana's traits, are actually, pretty much, Trivia, better known as Hekate. (Some early traditions do syncretize Selene/Hekate/Artemis.)

I worked a little with Aradia after she called me and I have had generally good results. Specifically, during full moons.
I am the Earth, The Sun and the Stars
And I am the also the Moon
I am all animal and birds,
And I am the outcast as well, and the thief
I am the low person of dreadful deeds,
And the great person of excellent deeds
I am Female. I am Male and I am Neuter.

I've never heard of Aradia, but I really would like to read the book you've mentioned to learn more. Thanks for sharing! :)

This is the version I reccommend because it has a bunch of writing from other names in the Neopagan community in the afterwards for modern perspectives part. Paul Huson, Raven Grimassi, and Judika Illes, etc. have sections about it.

This is a good site dedicated to Aradia that has a lot of resources.

I called upon Aradia for years and she is a beautiful goddess - and yes, full moons are great for contacting her. The "Gospel" is well worth reading. :)

In the tradition I am studying with, we work with Diana, Dianus (Lucifer) and Aradia.

I have worked a little with her. She has her own realm in the astral.

She is definitely very powerful. She is definitely a witch goddess, and I think Diana and Hekate are as well.

From the academia I have read, no one believes Aradia to be an actual person or it's not explored, vs say, a more popular figure like Christ. I don't know if she ever existed as a physical person, but I wish a little exploration was put into it. I am very curious if anything else could be found out about her outside of Leland.

I disagree with one of my dictionaries listing her as fictional, because the Gospel is not really meant to be "fictional" per se even though it is allegorical in a lot of places. Just because she is a "newer" goddess does not mean she is "fictional" in say the sense of originating from something like the Lord of the Rings, for example. By this logic, we could say all gods are "fictional", and in this manner I do not disagree. But the premise of the reason why the dictionary calls her fictional is flawed.

I don't agree with Leland that she is "Lilith", exactly, either, though I do agree she may be another form of Isis. I mean, I guess she could be one of the Liliths, but I am not sure I agree that she is the one people usually evoke.
