Hello Out There?

Postby Elem » Mon Jan 23, 2006 8:34 pm

Hey,

Just wanted to ask if there's any others out there like myself who practise Elementalism, or any form of it?

I'm very interested in speaking to you if so. Unfortunately, it's not often I find other Elementalists out there.. That is, if people know what I mean by Elementalism in the first place.

Hoping there's at least one other out there.

interesting. I've never heard of Elementalism. Perhaps you could enlighten me?

I'm not so sure if 'Elementalism' is what everyone calls what I practice, but it's the only decent name I've found for it.. And it kinda stuck.

Elementalism embraces and works with the fundamental energies that flow and ebb all around us - The Elements. It is, put simply, the direct manipulation of these energies, in order to acheive a desired outcome.

I control these energies through my mind, without any tools. I used to use visualisation techniques, but find no use for them nowadays.

In my experience, I have found it to be the most effective way to manipulate the energy of The Elements, as you are dealing with them directly rather than indirectly, as per most other practices.

i.e. You're jumping into the river itself to alter its flow directly, rather than throwing in stones. (A silly analogy, I know..)

Hope this clears things up some. I'd ramble on further, but it'd only bore :).

Can you give a clearer example of what it is you actually do as it sounds a bit confusing?

Apologies for sounding confusing.

I just find it very difficult to describe what it is I actually do, as it's so natural to me that I don't really think about what it is I'm doing.

The way I see it, we're surrounded by energy. This energy is made up of The Four Elements.

No matter what it is you're doing, be it a spell or otherwise, it all comes down to how it affects the flow of this energy.

I would refer to a spell as an 'indirect' method of channeling the energy, as you are using verbal / visual aids in order to bring about the change in flow. However, I would refer to what I do as a 'direct' method of channeling the energy.

As I said before, I struggle to explain what it actually is I do.. But I guess the best way of describing it is that I relax my state of mind such that I become sensitive to the flow of this energy. Then, once my mind is comfortably 'immersed' in it, I begin to shape it. I craft the flow with my mind, bringing about an outcome in a direct way.

This happens subconciously and almost instantaneously now, hence why I find it difficult to describe what it is I do. Obviously it has not always been this way, and it would often take me a considerable length of time before I was comfortable enough with the flow of energy to try and change it.

I hope this goes some way to helping describe what it is I 'do'. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hello Elem,

I realize your original post is a bit outdated but I'm glad I found it because what you're talking about is very similar to what many healers I've met practice with maybe small differences in how they categorize different kinds of energies. From what little I know the ability to heal 'magickally' (sorry I'm still not comfortable with this term) is deeply related to the ability to perceive and direct various energies which flow through a person.

I also realize that what you yourself actually do may not have to do with healing at all but I figure that you probably would find a lot in common with people in those circles.

I think it's great that you're pursuing an interest in a somewhat unorthodox vein of practice because you'll probably be able to add a great deal to the repository of common knowledge because of your specialization.

One comment I'd like to make is that as far as I know (which isn't much at this point) orthodox-style witches also deal directly with energy in their work and that sometimes the sum of the parts is greater than the whole.

Think of a beautiful oil painting, essentially it's composed of various pigments, oils, fats, dyes and varnishes but the impact and power of the painting itself is almost completely removed from what composes it. So I wouldn't underestimate the power of what you call 'indirect manipulation' via tools such as ritual, prose and pieces of highly complex structure from nature itself. A beautiful story can make you cry a lot more effectively than a glob of energy.

That being said, I also wouldn't underestimate the in-depth knowledge and experience that comes from studying and messing with archetypal (sorry for making up terms on the fly) energy itself. Many great artists have explored raw fundamentals to spectacular effect.

So I guess I'm saying that you might find camaraderie and commonality with many people practicing the healing arts such as maybe Reiki, Acupuncture or some branches of folk healing that I'm unaware of and that you probably also have a lot in common with many orthodox witches as well.

Hope this helps, sorry if I seem opinionated or that I'm claiming to have any great knowledge (I don't), I just like to offer whatever I have in my thoughts when I'm moved to.

cheers!

Thanks for your informative post, T. Guy :).

I understand entirely what it is you're saying - Thank you for being so thorough in your explanation! You don't come off as opinionated at all, don't worry, just very knowledgeable.

I think I sometimes get a little ahead of myself when talking about how I manipulate energies directly. Ultimately, it doesn't matter how you do it, so long as it works for you. If you manipulate raw energy indirectly, you can produce the same (if not a greater) effect as if it were manipulated directly.

Thank you for pointing that out to me :). I must admit, I've been very impressed with the caliber of your posts. I really enjoy reading them, and always feel enlightened after doing so. Often, I tend to skip over long posts, but I find you have a way with words and I end up reading every sentence.. Much to my coursework's detriment :D haha.

Anyway, enough rambling from me. Thank you again for your input, it's greatly appreciated :). Looking forward to reading more of your posts!

Thanks for the kind words, this entire board seems to be filled with many
friendly people who are supportive of each others' interests. I'm glad
that I stumbled across it. I think I will learn a lot from everyone here.

I've also found many of your posts very interesting and I quite enjoyed
your response on the topic regarding levitation.

Your obvious interest in forging your own path tempered with such a
readiness to consider everyone's input with respect and openness
is an example worth following.

cheers!

T. Guy.

Thank you :).

I'm sure you'll learn a lot, as I have during my time here. There's such a wide variety of people on this board who all support each other and help each other grow. This, from my personal experience at least, is extremely hard to find.

I must say, I'm glad I stumbled across this site too.. Although I can't remember for the life of me how I managed it :).
