Bedtime Story.

Postby thatguy » Sat Apr 15, 2006 12:42 am

Felt I, fast sleeping in early my year,
A small softly tugging upon my left ear,

One eye opened I, in new morning brightness,
and found a small fairy in fairytale likeness,

Two tiny eyes, a tiny nose,
two tiny feet, with tiny toes,

With longer legs and longer arms,
fall fast would I to this girl's charms,

But small she was and caused no fear,
so what the hell's she doing here?

Said she to I 'fore my tongue moved to tooth
"To tell you your story and three words of truth"

"Your father's a bastard your mother is dead"
"The new mare is evil and poisons his head"

"Try all you can to win you her trust"
"She'll plot to destroy you; she will, nay, she must!"

"Hard work and kind deeds and the strength of your heart"
"To this mare 'tis nothing, she'll rip you apart"

"The soul of your Father is hers now to take."
"by acts he named Love he thy mother did break".

"As with your mother he's shown you the same,"
"But thanks to the mare now he plays darker games."

"Unthinkable lies, betrayal of blood."
"your Father will cast you deep into the Mud."

"Despite all your courage, your spirit so bold",
"The die has been cast now, your story is told"

I paused long and deep in her beautiful eyes,
and knew she behind them was ancient and wise.

I gathered my courage though shaking and meek,
I filled up my lungs now and thus I did speak:

"My own Father's sin now I know to be clear,"
"From love from my mother he forged sickness and fear!"

"To twist love most sacred a man should not do,"
With sadness she whispered to me: "so will you"

My other eye opened in shock and in fright,
But this tiniest creature was now gone from my sight.

The fairy's dire story came true as was told,
and soon I was walking alone in the cold.

To frustrate the sprite in her words last unkind,
I disciplined self in both body and mind.

Despite all our efforts and words that are spoken,
The great pattern of fate is not easily broken.

Many years passed, and romances did beckon,
my inheritance came from a blindside direction.

Never to harm though my body complied,
my mind by emotion took the opposite side.

While love has been absent; affection held back,
a demon grows in us to take up the slack.

The demon is hungry and subtle as silk,
does whatever it can to hold on to its milk.

Love's said to be stronger than demons by most,
but love is much weaker than few of us boast.

For the love of my life, the first one so true,
my demon and I made long chains built for two.

My woman was strong and the chains they were broke,
She wrest herself free from my stifling choke.

My demon and I were alone in the night,
And absent it's milk now we'd have a fair fight.

The fight lasted years, myself much half dead,
It smarter, I stronger, and much blood was shed.

To see from the outside, this fight does look neat,
an idiot coward who trips on his feet.

More demons joined later, to help out their friend,
All of my monsters whose life I must end,

They're all gone and dead, I'm finally free,
But now I'm afraid that there isn't much me.

Later one night as I'd laid my poor head,
I felt something small then alight on my bed.

Two tiny eyes, a tiny nose,
two tiny feet, with tiny toes,

With longer legs and longer arms,
fall still would I to this woman's charms,

But small she was and caused no fear,
so what the hell's she doing here?

And she spoke.

"Though restrained thee thy body with one vow well kept,"
"Your mind has been vicious and women have wept"

"Though disowned you your father in words and in act,"
"Half him you in spirit and body is fact."

"Your efforts have failed mostly save for one thing,"
"No lives did you shatter but great sorrow did you bring"

"No creature will laud you for battles unknown"
"But thanks to your efforts your soul is your own"

"No mare now shall own you I give you my word"
"This one thread is broken the sound has been heard"

Then gone in a wink was this transient sprite,
But swore I to myself that she'd doubled in height.

Though fates weave our fabric with spider-silk twine,
You're liable for yours as I'm liable for mine.

Weaker and older and now much less use,
Myself and myself now have come to a truce.

We'll lament for our life as we look at the stars,
but know us full well there are fates worse than ours.

There's one thing I hope as I finish my rhyme:
I'll see that charmed fairy a final third time.

That was one of the best poems I have ever read. I love your style and word usage.
I have hardly any words for it, so I'm sorry but there are just no words I can come up with to say how wonderful this was.

Thank-you both very much for your words of encouragement.

Wolf Heart, this kind of praise, wow, thank-you.
