Building an altar
Building an altar
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good site that has a good selection of altar tools altar tables cloths athames and such. Ive been looking all over the web and i havent been able to find a site with a decent selection of altar tables which is what im after first.
Have you tried looking on ebay? Sometimes they have all kinds of things like that. Here are some other sites I found that sell alters and other items.

Have you thought of buying/using a standard end table or nightstand and just turning it into an altar? I use an empty fireplace for my altar. Using something that isn't already labelled as magical is usually cheaper and it probably won't change anything.

And river and stream work out their will.

I had thought about making somthing but im aiming for somthing a bit smaller than a nightstand being as how there isnt enough room left in my room as it is im looking for somthing pretty much like this http://www.wiccanglade.com/baalta.html this aside from the retractable legs i want one that is solid all the way through
Push comes to shove, you could always set up on the floor. I do most of my rituals sitting on a pillow in front of an altar cloth, right on the floor. It's a decent alternative when you have as little space and means as I do.

Would a nice wooden tray work well? You can pick one up at an art supply store, Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot... Lots of places and it wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

Good suggestions and points, everyone. :28:
I use a little tray similar to your bamboo-table link, Beowulf- but it doesn't have legs, and that is good for me as I need a portable altar- given the circumstances in my home. (Kid, spouse, hungry dog...)
Just remember, Beowulf- it's solely the power that you possess that makes any instrument Magical. You could even use a cardboard box if you dress it well enough.

What constitutes "well enough"? you could use a raw cardboard box if that was all that's handy.'s solely the power that you possess that makes any instrument Magical. You could even use a cardboard box if you dress it well enough.
I suggest checking out this essay on creating an altar from practicaly nothing. Keep in mind that it's written for an ADF altar and not for Wiccan or Wiccan-influenced altars, which are far more common, it's still a great example of how your altar doesn't need to be anyhting fancy to be an altar.

Well My alter table (one of them i kinda have 2 the tables are to smell for one ) was found in the bumpster with a broken leg...it still have a broken leg. When i do a ritual i move what i need to the floor where i have more space. We live in a small apartment so the underneth of my alter has my sowing machine and an iron. If you whould like an idea on how it can look ( my alter isnt set up like some people says it should be i set it up how i fely like it should be ) i have the link below of the broken leg and my alter, its vert small and just a very small amount of things i have collected
