Solar Eclipse, August 21, 2017

Postby corvidus » Sun Jun 18, 2017 3:32 pm

Hi!

On August 21, 2017, the solar eclipse cuts through america. I will be somewhere on Borah Peak, Idaho, to view the totality of it (plus some other fun experiments)

Anyone else following this event, or planning on viewing it?

I keep making mental notes about it, which I promptly forget. I remember the one in 1979. I was working at Rocky Flats. A few of us went out onto the loading dock, and watched day turn to dusk. We remembered not to look directly at it, just watched the effects. In retrospect, it was almost like watching a nuclear winter stealing over the plant site. Something that we may still face. My mind is wandering today. Willie would tell me I have "sometimer's."

You bet! To tie up that sweet, solar-lunar energy, I'll be making witch ladders during the span of the eclipse. Got fresh twine ready, so up until the date it's a matter of collecting appropriate curios for the knotting.

I will be at Ft Davis National Park. I'll be in a circle, watching it on my own though, as I waited too late to register for the Eclipse Event at the McDonald Observatory, housed in this park.

Next day though, Im driving up to Socorro NM to visit the Very Large Array.

What would be the best way to bind up some of that energy, by the by? I can imagine a total solar eclipse's energy would pack one heck of a wallop, bound properly.

My method of binding the energy of a phenomenon is consistent across the board, whether it's a hurricane, an eclipse, or a fever. A witch ladder of three, six, or nine with a knot of choice. I made a short incantation for the tying, and of course focus and intent is paramount.

Hnnngh, I'm pretty excited about this. I'll be going with my roomies down a ways to where we can view it in it's totality, and we've got our eye protection on the way, lol.

I'm in the process of making a scrying mirror, and with this sort of event only possible at a new moon, it's that much more powerful for the purposes of divination. I was originally going to tie the eclipse energy into witch ladders, but I've decided to focus wholly on the consecration of this tool during the totality of it.

Found a groovy image from NASA that shows the path of this remarkable event...will you be in the totality zone?
One from our coven is traveling to Portland for the event, gah! Wish I could go.

I hope this is the right thread, but what are your plans for solar eclipse magick?

No spell plans. I intend to observe the eclipse if the sky is clear enough. I have two pairs of sun glasses for the occasion, to wear stacked. It will be partial from my location. I haven't seen one since I was a kid. At my age I won't get another chance.

Edit: forecast is cloudy
I might set out a bowl of water to catch some NRG

You can see what time the solar eclipse will be at its peak for your location with this calculator: https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/ ... active-map

@ SpiritTalker -- I think even two sunglasses may not be 100% safe for your eyes; you might want to consider finding alternative ways to view it! I'm planning on making some very simple pinhole projectors for a little viewing party I'm hosting.

Oh yes, I have the pin hole card too, but I know it'll be impossible not to peek. halfsm
