Breaking a spell
Breaking a spell
I would like to ask for your help ^^"
As I said in another topic about my Book of Shadow, I might have done something wrong whilst trying to bless it. Now it won't let me write inside. At first I panicked, I thought I had wronged the gods or something, but some people told me it might just be some sort of lesson. Indeed, I asked the elements to protect the books from "wandering eyes and prying look", which I might just be myself... so, it could be their own way of telling me to be careful with the words I use.
The thing is, I still want to make of this book my Book of Shadows. Do you think I could break my own blessing somehow, so I can try again...?
It's kinda embarrassing, but I'm still learning the ropes... I thought you might know of some way!
Thank you in advance!

Re: Breaking a spell
I vote for lessons.
Have you considered writing a rough draft page in a notebook first, then making sure it's perfect before transcribing it into your BoS?

Re: Breaking a spell
No, I haven't... This is a good idea, I'll train on something else, thank you! Still though, don't I need to remove my first blessing before I try to add a new one...?
Re: Breaking a spell
Not really. If you think about it, removing a blessing is kinda like a curse.

Re: Breaking a spell
Resetting your book -negating a spell you have placed on an object. This can be a spell to remove your previously used spell, it can be the first entry in your book. You will need something of your own to bind the spell to. It can be any small item. You are, in essence, sacrificing the object. I personally don't use things like a coin, metals complicate matters. Cutting a button off a piece of clothing is the easiest object to use. A container of some sort. It is best in black but, dark navy blue, forest green or maroon will work if necessary. A piece of cloth and needle and black thread are my favorite.
You will need to craft a spell that is a way to counter the energy already used. Ask the power that you invoked the favor of reversing your spell. State that you understand that changing your mind this way has a price and you will place the energy used in the small item you have chosen. That it will be rendered dormant and inert. That the item will carry all that is left of the spells into the earth to discharge safely. State your intent that no harm befall any who might find the object. Sew the object into the cloth so it can't get out.
If you enjoy candles or it is a high energy spell, seal the seams with wax. White works best but, most any color will do. Thank the power you invoked. Bury object. For a small object 70 - 80 centimeters should work. For this type of item, burial on your own property should do no harm. If you use this type of spell to negate things involving great energy then bury it far from your property. It is best on the waning moon. We are just at the turn over for new moon. Bury it today for best results or wait till next month, if you want to be that careful. For this case, I doubt it matters. I include moon phase awareness for future use.

Re: Breaking a spell
Thank you, this is what I was looking for ^^ I'll try to do this today. The only problem is that all my buttons are plastic or metal. I wouldn't want to hurt nature by throwing non-degradable waste away...
I'll think of something clean to sacrifice. Thank you again. It might take some time for me to find the right words this time, but I'll be more careful.
I'll keep you updated ^^
EDIT : What about a shoe lace? It's kinda bigger, but at least it's made of cloth... Or maybe a clip of my own hair?

Re: Breaking a spell
Go with the shoe lace. DO NOT EVER use anything from your body for a spell until you're farther along your path.
Re: Breaking a spell
Understood, I didn't know about this... sorry. Should I still sew it to another piece of cloth...?
I'm trying to find the words right now...
EDIT:
What do you think about this...?
I'm calling you this afternoon,
In this last day of waning moon,
Air and Fire, Earth and Water,
Please hear my words, hear my prayer.
Help me revert this one blessing,
For I have erred in its making.
I know the price for my mistake,
Here is my gift, for you to take.
May this token seal up the spell,
So the earth might absorb it well,
May it harm none that ever see,
And as my will, so mote it be.
EDIT 2
It's done! I decided to seal the lace on a piece of cloth I cut from my old karate belt. Now that I think about it, it might be the most personal thing in this sacrifice...
I burried the token in my front yard near our dead cherry tree. The candle made some weird bubble noise somehow. I think it went alright afterall...!
Thanks a lot! I'll wait for a better moon to bless my Book of Shadows again.

I don't know, maybe I just work better with a deadline...? ^^" Please don't make me blush...
Writing in French is much easier for me, but I feel like English fits well for magic. I should probably try both. Perhaps it's just that I associate French with my everyday life, and it feels weird using it for sacred matters...

Re: Breaking a spell
Work with either. Your comfort level with what you are doing will show in the spell. How long have you been using English? Your English is excellent.
Re: Breaking a spell
Well, to be honnest my written english is as good as my oral is terrible. Books, movies, series, video-games... Almost everything that's interesting in this world is in english ^^ Most of the softwares, and their online communities are too. School helps, but the multimedia just makes things a lot easier. We can't always find a french version for things we like, it often takes some time to be released, and it is it's not always the best voice acting...
I'm not entirely sure I was absolutely confortable with everything in this ritual... I'm not all that good at sewing. Hope it wont show...!

Re: Breaking a spell
This will sound like a silly question, but what do you mean by it won't let you write in it?
Do you mean physically (e.g. it's a book and you can't get the lock open, or it's an electronic app that crashes before you can type, or when you write on the page no ink appears?)
Or do you mean mentally/spiritually? (e.g. you can't think what to write)
Reason I ask is that it's taken me 20 years to successfully start a bos. I was going through some things recently and found a beautiful book a witch friend had given me years ago to use as a bos. It was still blank. I realised I'd always wanted to start a bos but hadn't because a) it was on paper and I wanted it to be perfect and have no mistakes in it ever and b) I didn't know what exactly to put in it or in what structure and c) I didn't want anyone else reading it.
So, realising those three things I started an electronic app bos with a password last week. Doesn't matter if I make mistakes now as I can change things and I can take my bos everywhere on my phone. And it's got some great stuff in it already.
But, I always felt the reason I didn't have a bos previously was that I didn't feel worthy as a witch to have one. But when I rethought things it was just practical reasons.
So maybe your bos isn't the one who won't let you write in it? (as per my case).

Re: Breaking a spell
Lol... the blessing worked... I can feel the energy around the words, "wandering eyes and prying look".. It might just take time, not all blessings are short. This one looks eternal (protection). If you treat it with respect it will be fine.
And yes I do realise the irony in my saying that.
To break a spell or blessing... consider it an experiment. You have an objective finding, or lesson. All facts considered.

Re: Breaking a spell
Work better with a deadline sounds to me like you may be better suited to intuitive working. Sounds like you should trust that intuition more and occasionally let it rise to the surface - it really is the best guide. So don't be afraid to blush lol!I don't know, maybe I just work better with a deadline...? ^^" Please don't make me blush...

The type of language surely matters less then the language ... write from the heart, don't be afraid of eloquence or whimsy, mistake - you are the only one reading it. Sometimes the flow of a language is important
... It IS personal choice (almost everything is) - do what feels right. I have always thought of French to have a beautiful flow ... but like English, it can be a brutish blunt instrument or hold a sublime candence ... but a shopping list sounds nothing like a sonnet.
