Talking to Plants?

Postby Ice_Witch » Fri Jun 02, 2006 10:47 am

Hi.

Recently I read in a site (Which I can't write down because I forgot) that some people talk to plants  :?:

I asked my parents and they said that's nt really so strange, they told me some people talk to, for example, small or growing plants and that they ussually grow better.

Has anyone here had a... recent conversation with any... plant?

Hello
I often talk to my plants. It's been researched and documented that plants who have that special care and attention from people actually do grow better and healthier. Some belive it's the oxygen we give out when we talk that makes them thrive. Personally I think that's a load of old twadle. I believe that plants have their own energy and simply respond to that extra love and attention.

When you talk to them, what exactly... I mean what do you say?

I have a plant that was dying and I talked to them but it wasn't exactly talking, I was more babying them, like as if they were a baby and I felt silly.

Who would want someone to babytalk them? Plant or not? I could just imagine a little face in the plant with an eyebrow risen staring at me as if I'm some kind of idiot!

Well i don't know about plants, but my cats prefer baby talk. It can be an intimate form of communication between parent and child/cat/plant.

I have heard of a number of studies about talking to plants and most seem to agree that it helps in growth while shoating and violent noise seem to hurt them. Its also worth mentioning that many plants seem to prefer being touched or petted as well.

I do talk to some of my plants, and while I don't use baby talk, I do tend to use endearments a fair bit. One particular tree gets an awful lot of my attention.

I just babble on about anything and everything!
It gives my friends ears a bit of a break if nothing else!

Very Happy
LOL!

I talk to my plants too. It does them good, and as Hedge says, gives others a break.

My plants have never minded baby talk, normal talk, music, but shouting is a no-no.

That's... amusing. An old teacher of mine used to have a classroom full of plants, and there was this one with silky long leaf-like things that I always used to pet. It was like my little plant friend.
I think that appreciating plants is good for people (and according to studies, the plants as well), no matter how they choose to do it. If they want to talk to their trees, good for them!

My mum actually plays music to her plants (weird, since she's normally the most narrow-minded, practical person I've ever met).

I always thought that this was just putting human values onto something not human, you know like people make TV programmes where animals talk and stuff like that (to make them easier to deal with if you know what i mean), but a while ago a very sceptical me did put some music on my plants (my own tiny grotty little patch) and after a while they did look a little less grotty. And i felt slighty odd, you know, talking to plants, but they really aren't gonna tell anyone about my little bitch sessions!

I am sad because sage was the one i was looking forword to haveing the most, i started it from a seed so i mite try agin and go get one thats already started and transfer it to a pot and give it more attention than i have the one befor...My fionce was makeing a bit of fun at me because he said i whouldnt be able to keep them alive, but he hasnt said to much sence more are alive than dead...and i am also the one that makes his food so he keeps his mouth prety much shut about it.

my dad, loves plants, he's also loves music, so my dad, play's his gautar and sings to them sometimes.

THough i did watch a mythbuster episode where they were, testing to if it was actually true, and it turns out plants dont care what kind of music you play could be heavy metal, or classical they'll still grow at the same rate.

i don't know i found it midley interesting

Yes what i was always told why thay respond well to people talking is because plats breath carbondioxide witch is what we exhail and thay exhail oxygen so the more we talk to them the beter thay breath....i think thats how it is...*forgot science class*....but just playing music....i wonder why people think plants are acculy "alive" when thay respond to things like that you know thay know its alive but thay see it as just a plant it isnt a liveing being...I donno...that just a though. Same with rocks, there not alive but.....thay grow......right? I had an argument with my dad about that once..

Sorry rocks arnt the topic here.

I heard a theory somewhere that it's the vibrations from sound that stimulates them, which also explains the music.

Also I think that by personifying them it makes us take more care of them and look after them more. Which, obviously, would help them.
