Avalon

I have been reading the book "Mists Of Avalon" for awhile now and I'm getting quite close to the end. I've seen the movie, and by far the book is better. However that is not what this topic is about.

I know that in the end Morgaine closed off Avalon to the rest of the world or some such thing. So I had talked with a couple friends and we were wondering how much that book might have been based on facts. So what I'm wondering is what are your thoughts on Avalon? Do you believe Avalon did, and maybe still does, exist? Could it be possible that Morgaine really did close it off and it is still there somewhere out in the world.

I was just curious as to what everyone else thought about it. Oh, and if anyone else has read the book. If you haven't, you should!

Mists of Avalon is one of my favourite books - I've read it four times.
I beleive Avalon existed and still does exist, in some other dimension maybe but IT'S STILL THERE.

I tend to view everything in a metaphorical sense, especially books or movies. Morgan is, amongst other things, the Goddess of the past; she represents the sands of time. Avalon is not only a form of the afterlife, but a metaphor for pagan wisdom and peace. Paganism was all but buried in history, thanks to the church. We, as Neo-Pagans, are reopening Avalon by making the conscious choice to persue our paths.
