Is it common?

I have dreams that keep going each night. I will dream something one night and the dream will either continue the next night or a person I was with in the dream will be with me in my dreams for the next few nights. Also most of the time if I have a new dream it will reference the last dream I had. Such as I will look at a newspaper and see something that happened in last nights dream or I will meet a character from last nights dream even thought it is a completely different plot. Is this a common thing to happen? Has anybody else had an experience with this?
