In elmamentery school i was in the "special" room, this was befor the school i whent to had special ed classes, i whent for math and reading, then i also whent to the guidence counceler alot, then in 5th grade thay moved me to a dislexia class.....where all we did was read what we could then leave....then we moved out of state, i started going to a good dislexia class infact a pub. school teacher made fun of me once for going there. i was in that class for like 3 or 4 years and then i left pub. school after that for homeschooling because my mother wanted to shelter me more than i already was. but i wanted it because i was sheltered so bad i was made fun of alot in the new school. So yeah theres my school life, lol.

Addalaide:

That sucks you had problems with people and teachers. No educator should ever do that to anyone and should be fired. I don't think I was sheltered nearly as bad as you were. Even though I was kind of on lock down in the house through out some of my most important years, high school. The only time I have seen some one home school their kid; they were a highly religious family that feared that their child would run into bad influences. Yet, I think if you don't teach your kid about all of these "influences" than they are even more vulnerable.

Sarah:

I use to feel a lot like the outsider myself, but then I realized I had no reason to feel that way at all. It took me a long time to understand that how I feel effects how people feel around me. Not an easy concept to learn or apply to be honest. Just got to stop feeling like the odd one out and realize you are worth peoples time. I know it seems much harder to do than just to state it, but its all a trial and error process. If you feel like the outsider or weird one, people might pick up on that and feel indifferent to you. Its all in your body language, the way you talk to people, and how you treat yourself more than how you treat others. You are never alone! :P

Oh yes i agree i felt absulutly stupid when kids whould call me names and i didnt even know what thay ment. I remeber one time on the school bus my friend fell asleep on my sholder and the boy infront of us turns around woke her up and said what are you a cuople of lesbians and i hadnt ever herd that word befor so i didnt even know what it was. I also asked another girl what Gay ment and she started to laught and said thats funny.

I understand people want to keep there childrens inasents, but i whould hate to know i was makeing my kid feel as stupid as i did then. There where so many other instances like that and i still ask my fionce what words mean and he pokes fun at me for a minet then explanes it to me.

It will be hard for me when i have kids, because yeah i want them to stay kids as long as long as thay can and not have to know about the stuff thats bad in the world, but i really dont want them to feel like i did, and i know that even Kendergardeners know what gay is now and i didnt know tell 14 or 15

I also know alot of homeschooled kids who dont even belive in a god but a majarity are christions and jews

Oh yeah and this teacher hated me, it was in study hall right after math class and i took out my home work from my dislexia class cause it takes like atmost 10 minets to do and out of the 31 kids in the room she stands up almost emidiatly walks over to me and says what are you doing this isnt school work, evey one in here is doing school work and your playing around? i told her this was home work and if she didnt belive me to go ask the teacher that gave it to me ( the teacher that gave it to me acculy had athoraty over most the teachers in the school because thay where all mostly traines) so she just said well no one ealse is doing it so its special work and you should put it up and do your math work.

I think when and if I have kids (haha), I would rather have them hear it from me than somebody else that got it wrong. I don't think I would mind explaining anything to them if they asked and were curious.

I remember a time I had a 5th grade teacher that was just a jerk to me becuase, I couldn't understand this certain thing in math. I felt like a total idiot becuase, I was the only one that didn't get it and he explained it to me like 8 times. I mean, I never considered myself stupid at all, but boy did I felt like it. He got really frustrated that he was starting to pound on the board in a violent manner. So I just faked it and said I got it because I began to feel intimidated by him. From there, I never asked a teacher for help ever again until college when I got over it. Teachers have no idea how much they can effect the kids they teach.

still, I think it all comes down to patience. If a kid really wants to understand something, teachers should take the time to do so or at least stay with them after class when there is more time. I don't like how students just "pass through" the system. Everyone should be educated right.

I agree, there really are no bad students. I think being a teacher is one of the most sacred duties because a teacher makes a decision to be responsible for someone else's edification; for better or worse.

Unfortunately most of the modern world has adopted a one-size-fits all approach to education. I don't agree with this, as much as we are all similar to each other, we are also all unique. All children deserve the same respect regardless of their particular allotment of aptitudes.

From what i was told, teachers only need 3 week head start to teach a class, thats what my science teacher said, she was a first year teacher and said sometimes teachers are only 3 weeks ahead of there students teaching what thay only lerned 3 weeks ago. Substitues dont even know most the time what thay will be teaching that day tell that get in and get the scedual.

That is actually kind of...bad if they are barely ahead of their students in the schedule. Then again, I can also see the benefits of it being more flexible if you want to add something in. You got to wonder what the school system is doing these days. I don't believe in lowering standards, especially since America isn't rated very high in the world. What is the highest in education? Germany? Or has it changed? There is actually a shortage of teachers, and I can see why with the way the system works, the low pay and the recent dangers involved. I have seen teachers get cussed out before by defiant students and of course the possibility of weapons being brought into the schools. In other countries like china, teachers are highly respected and well paid. That is the way it should be unless the teacher is terrible and abusive. In college they give you "evaluation" papers at the end so you can rate how great or terrible your teacher is. But they do NOTHING to make the system better. All they do is get glossed over and given to the teacher after the semester ends. Nobody important reads them, so why do we bother filling them out?

And to be honest, whenever a substitute came into class, it was such a waste of time. Everyone took advantage of the subs, which was sad. The subs didn't really care much either, they were more like baby sitters.

I don't really talk about my beliefs/practices, partly because I think people are going to think it's "some silly hippy sh*t" or something (there's a voice in my head that still says that, I think it's the voice of my big sister... Sounds like the kind of thing she'd say), but mainly because I find it difficult to put what I've experianced into words. I don't consider myself wiccan, at the moment I'm not sure if I even consider myself pagan. Right now I guess I'm just "spiritual" (which sounds really lame), and this isn't really something worth telling lots of people, as lots of hippy new age types claim to be spiritual just because they have incense and a few dreamcatchers...

Sorry, but these kinds of hippies annoy me more than christians. Probably because there's more of them around where I live and are harder to ignore :)

Yeah, my fionce calls it "That hippy sh*t" He said i was a hippy...but i completly understand what you are saying. I have changed a little in my veiws latly and the best way i can classify myself is eclectic. But my little sister probly whouldnt understandwhat wicca is, my mom refuses to tell her anything other than its bad. And my faily whould litterly disown me if i told them i was pagan.
