I just heard about this from one of my friends and thought I would share.
Her ex-boyfriend is getting a divorce and found "God" while out to sea last patrol or so. He comes back in, and one of his friends has decided that he's Wiccan. His friend tells him what he's been looking into, and Mr. Ex decides that maybe he could be Wiccan too. The pair decides that they need to go to the old cemetary in town to summon spirits to commune with them. Mr. Ex doesn't see any problem in trying to summon spirits when neither one of them know what they are doing, or are really sure what they believe in.
And a side note here...The guy's from my home town and the cemetary in question has had many reports about ghosts/spirits being spotted or felt.
My friend told him that if they really didn't know what they were doing, they shouldn't be doing it. Especially since both of them aren't really sure what they believe....plus its illegal to go into the cemetary after dark since it closes. Seemed to be one of those things that causes real witches/pagans problems and ridicule.

As I just posted about a minute ago about spirit conjuring. http://www.everythingunderthemoon.net/f ... php?t=3969
I'm really against anything that has to do with spirits and invocation since I've personally had bad experiences with it and have family members that have had bad experiences with it. I don't like it and will probably never have much to do with it in this lifetime.
Going into a cemetary to conjure is an even worse thing to do due to the mass of bodies there. If you go into an environment like that in the dead of night be prepared to have some startling experiences. You won't know what you're talking to and more times than not encounter multiple spirits. I'm already a person that doesn't trust others so that adds on to the fact that I prefer to have nothing to do with these things.
I suggest telling Mr. Ex and his buddy to do a bit of research on the Wiccan religion and learn a bit of common sense.

They were told to do more research and that it was not a very bright idea. I am hoping that they took the suggestions to heart...
I don't know what is up with people from my home town. The city that is 20 min south had last year or the year before a group of teenage "Wiccan Witches" that broke into a morgue and stole body parts for a spell or summoning. I don't remember what exactly they said they were trying to do. There was quite a bit of news coverage and a lot of the pagan community came out saying that their actions were not supported or condoned...

I'm with Epothes. Summoning spirits is full of hazards, even for those who know absolutely what they are doing. Calling spirits to you in a graveyard is a dangerous practice. Sometimes what you call to you will not leave you, especially if you don't know anything about banishment. There are a lot of opportunistic entities that just lie in wait for that kind of foolishness. Nevermind the fact that spirits of the dead in a graveyard are probably pretty miserable and bothering them just for idle amusement is unkind to say the least.
I would go with "Hey, lets go summon some spirits and see what wierd stuff happens."
I mean, if they're so confused as to go to a graveyard to do it, then they obviously have no idea what they're doing!
The "graveyard sceance" is an age-old stereotype, used in TV, movies, and two-bit horror stories. It's the people that don't realize these things and don't think about conciquences that really get in trouble!
I don't pity them, that's for sure.

Spirit summoning can go wrong of coarse, but so can any spell. Summoning a spirit when done correctly and with the right protection spells to back it up...shakes his head.. Fear of spirits is the same as fear of what is to come. But like all energys they are bound by the rules of nature. Becoming posessed, usally only accures when your state of mind and concessness(sp) need to be in check, there is a reason that every SPELL and I mean every, you are suppose to calm your self, focus your engery and your heart, and summoning a spirit is no different.
As far as these guys if they didnt know what they beleived or what they are doing, for the most part all they would probally get is is a gravling at most. (NO its not just a name from a TV show.) A gravling is a stuck spirit they are trapped between this world and the next but they usally arent strong enough todo anything but scare someone out of their wits.

The thing that aggravates me about a lot of the people who decide to summon a spirit just for the heck of it is the lack of consideration they are showing for those who are in the spirit world. After all, would you go and wake up a total stranger at midnight just to see if you could?? I suspect not, and if you did you might not be happy with the response.
If we believe that the spirits of the deceased have moved on to whatever afterlife they believe in, then why are we dragging them back to this world against their will? It's one thing to try to communicate with the spirit of someone you loved and were close to in this life. But it's just rude to disturb a spirit just for the fun of it.
