One of my favorite websites for information on a wide variety of different Gods and Goddesses is
Encyclopedia Mythica http://www.pantheon.org
For Greek Gods and Goddess try:
Compendium of the Gods: http://www.wargoddess.net/greek/rel/compendium/
And for Egyptian deities try:
http://www.touregypt.net/egyptantiquities/
As to books, for an overall listing of the Gods and Goddesses of many cultures I suggest "Encyclopedia of the Gods" by Michael Jordan.
For Celtic Deities I first recommend reading any of the existing stories about the Deities that have survived into modern times such as the Welsh "Mabinogian" of the Irish Tains. But I also suggest:
"Celtic Goddesses" by Miranda Green
"The Gods of the Celts" by Miranda Green
"Celtic Gods/Celtic Goddesses: by R.J. Stewart
"The Great Queens" by Rosaling Clark
For Egyptian Deities I would also recommend reading some of the books on Egyptian Deities that have survived into modern times such as the "Egyptian Book of the Dead" and "The Pyramid Texts". And I would also suggest:
"The Complete Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt: by Richard H. Wilkinson.
If you are interested in the Norse pantheon, then the best place to start would be reading the "Poetic Eddas" and the "Prose Eddas "that show us the Gods as the Norse actually viewed them. Then you might like to try.
"Gods and Myths of Northern Europe" by Hilda Davidson
And finally if you are looking at the Greek Gods and Goddesses try reading Homer, both the "Iliad" and the "Odyssey", as well as any other books on the Greek myths. Then you might try:
"Old Stones, New Temples" by Drew Campbell.
Hope these are helpful.

Information on the Gods and Goddesses
Re: Information on the Gods and Goddesses
actually, you might want to avoid this one...besides the fact that it's out of print, campbell pulled a ot of the inf in his book out of his nether orifice. And finally if you are looking at the Greek Gods and Goddesses try reading Homer, both the "Iliad" and the "Odyssey", as well as any other books on the Greek myths. if it's the greek gods you're looking for, try anyhting by Karl Kerenyi..his book Gods Of The Greeks is an excellent overview, and is frequently available used on amazon for $5 or less.
Any of his other books are also highly recommended, but some are out of print and more difficult to find.
Also...there's the Homeric Hymns, the Orphic hymns, Hesiod's theogeny and various other works of ancient greek literature.
Beacuse this is now the second post I have seen with you recommending this book, I did some research on it online.
The things I found were interesting, But an admitting from the writer himself, tells me why I will not use this book as fact.
"Quote: "Do we know for sure this is fact, no but my research using, Using myths, art, and "urban legends". Are most Likley the closest you will find.
The words Most likly, are what sety me off from it, because of two reasons. My family is old, and the religion I follow is what my grandmother and grandfather taught me, and they were taught by their mothers and father, who were taught by theirs. My family has practiced our religion in secret for as long as it is documented, and since my mother has a family sheild of valor hanging on her wall, that is our oldest family airloom, and it is dated 500 years old, thats a long long time.
The books that lark posted are both the standard as well the most trusted sources for the placings of both the greek and Roman beliefs.
As for the one being out of print, you know Lark I know you are older than me but at 31 i still know what a library is ment for. Ebay does not decide what is a true book, boys and girls, in times of old if you wished knowledge you had to do one thing the world seems to has forgotten even since I was a child. Go to the library. All the books that lark posted can be found and read there, by simply opening a card catalog.

I have a book by D.J. Conway called Celtic Magic thats amazing i think. It lists many many many dietys and also all the wee people of folk lore
that would be the book where she states that the prechristian Celts worshipped potatoes as symbols of the goddess if I remember correctly?
Yeah, except for the whole thing that poptatoes didn't exist in Ireland until WAY after it had been fairly thoroughly Christianized.
DJ Conway's books read like bad juvenile fantasies. If you believe what she says, she's got baby dragons that hang from her ears while she reads tarot cards, and run around her house chasing after her pets.
well, i know she says that in one of her books...unless she has another one with a Celtic theme, but I'm *reasonably* sure that that's the one, and I wouldn't go by her association charts either. Her information isn't questionable, it's just plain bad.Nope, dosnt say a word about potatoes, that i read atlest, I skiped about 2 chapers. Mostly when i whent to the store and opend it up, i saw all the charts, all the lists of the dietys and things of that sort and thats what i use it for.
