banishment

Postby Tuzza » Thu Nov 02, 2006 11:52 pm

I have a question on terminology that I haven't been able to find on the internet so I figured I'd ask the experts.
Is there a term for a person proficient in banishing? (Particularly demons or evil spirits).
And contrastingly, is there a cooler word for "summoner"?

Depends on what context you're using the word summoner... as I use it, it has next to nothing to do with spirits.

Well... I mean summoner really as in relation to conjuring up anything; not necissarily spirits, maybe emotions or something of the sort. As long as it doesn't go with its meaning of assemble.

Personally, I don't know if there is a term for someone who is proficient in banishing. A Banisher? You might want to try looking it up at A Witches Dictionary. I'd check the same site for a cooler word for Summoner also. I personally didn't see anything, but I only browsed it. They might have what you're looking for! :D

Julikaki is right. A Summoner is like a male version of the maiden. A member of the coven who is an assistant to the High Priest. I'm not sure what word you would use for someone who draws out spirits (I think that's what your meaning, anyway). Maybe a Caller, who is a person who Invoke or summon Divine forces, spirits, etc. Hope this helped!

Blessed Be!

Hmm it seems Necromancer is the closest to summoner actually. >.> Why didn't I think of that.

I was just kind of curious about that one, the banishing one is more important. :/ My friend suggests "Excommunicator" but I don't think that's right... wiki says it basically means being banished from the church, which could mean spirits but also could mean humans.

Thanks for the help, though. :) If I can't get an official term for it I'll probably stick with excommunicator.

A Necromancer is a person who summons the souls of the dead. Also, Necromancy is revealing the future through magick and especially through communication with the deceased. I don't think that's actually the same as
what you're thinking is a summoner. But if you are thinking more calling on those that have passed on instead of demons or things like that then you would be called a necromancer.

An Excommunicating is to exclude or expel from membership or participation in any group, association, etc. I guess that could be used, but it really wouldn't encompass everything that a banisher would do. But it's up to you!

You could use the term Shaman, plural - Shamen. Shamanic work often encompasses both summoning and banishing.

Try 'Sorcerer'. In the vernacular, the art of 'sorcery' involves the control of [evil] spirits to perform magic.
