reaction to silver necklace
It sounds like you are having a rash alergy to the metal, the best things you can do is take it off when you sleep and when you shower, that should give your skin enough of a break, to at least wear it when you wish to display it. You dont need it all the time, when you are alone the gods know your faith they dont need your necklace to remind them. It is more to display to others your faith.
I agree with Exilus, you could try using a leather or fabric thong with a plastic clasp, there are several kinds available. If you're loaded you could try pure silver which is much more expensive than sterling but has no [ very miniscule] impurities. I react to gold, perhaps I'd be o.k. with the pure stuff but I'd need to rob a bank to find out.lol.

aside from clear nail polish, there is a hypoallergenic coating that you can get for jewlery like this. It brushes on like nail polish would, and is clear. One of my cousins is allergic to a number of metals, and coatig them with nail polish did nothing for her. She tried one of these and doesn't seem to have a problem anymore. I can't remember where she got it, but I think it was a beauty supply store.
You could also try leather like someone else suggested. I keep one of my necklaces on a leather cord, and I cut it long enough so that I could just knot it and slip the cord over my head, no clasp needed.
