altars & shrines

Postby witchbpm » Wed Dec 27, 2006 12:43 pm

So last night i was cleaning some of my little altars in my room. I have this Moon Goddess banner thats dark blue with a Goddess on a crescent in it. And i tacked it up behind the wall of my book case. I think i'll do the same thing for the Green Man/Horned God. But when i was cleaning, i had to move all my Catholic statues to a different talbe... Catholic statues you asked? Well i was raised Catholic and no i'm not a CristoPagan. When i was younger my mom would put little shrines of the Virgin Mary or the Infant Jesus to watch over me and protect me. I remember when i was 13 and just started practicing Wicca/Paganism, i put them all in a box in the attic. Then one day when i volunteered to help this Pagan shop around my area, i got into a conversation of about deity and the divine with one of the owners. She said all Divine manifestations is one and the same, some may see the Goddess as Kwan Yin and some the Virgin Mary, but they are both Goddess', same goes with the Divine-Masculine force ... So i went back home, and took them off storage and dusted them and reserved a spot for them in my room. Any of you still keep stuff from your past religions?

I have lots of items from various faiths, I collect interesting things. I grew up with a veritable panoply of Catholic saint statues, I was clumsy and kept knocking them over, there were so many. I have my mother's rosary beads, for sentimental value. I understand that divinity takes many forms in different faiths. I particularly liked St Francis of Assisi and I have a fondness for the Celtic saints, which remains, despite my rejection of all things Christian. Good people come in all persuasions - and I love the stories that go with many of the saints - I find the allegories interesting.

I have no 'past religions'. I was an atheist up until the age of about 23 (I suppose in some ways I still am an atheist) and have been a witch now for about 7/8 years.

Nope, I didn't really have any "stuff" when I was a Christian. We had a couple of bibles in the house, but none of them were "mine" s I never got attached to them.

I also don't believe in the "all divinity is one" so to me, a statue of Mary is a statue of Mary, one of Quan Yin is one of Quan Yin etc.
