Voodoo kit: What a crock!

Postby Mr. Oogie Boogie » Thu Mar 22, 2007 8:10 pm

I bought "The Voodoo Kit" at Barnes and Noble. The instruction booklet was an entertaining read. That is all it had going for it. It doesnt work. Period. It didn't say anything but get an item from the person you desire to do voodoo on and get to it. Is there more to it than that? Is Voodoo just a lie? Please help.

Voodoo is hardly a lie, but like all magic there's SOOO much more to it than that! No spell will ever be successful if all you do is wave your hand over a poppet chanting booga booga. Also, I have yet to find any kind of spell kit that is authentic in any way. Your best bet it to go through this forum and look for some of the books or websites that are recommended and start researching. If you're interested in pursuing Voodoo (or any magickal path) beyond intellectual study you should try to find someone who is knowledgable, credible and willing to help you.

And remember also that it will take time and a lot of effort; nothing happens over night.

i remember seeing a Voodoo kit, that was a good 10 yrs ago, a vile purple little book with a poppet and a few pins. Sercee answered your questions pretty well. for what it may appear your intending to do aside from Voodoo, you should also look into Poppet Magic, since there is a lot more to Voodoo than that Plus poppet magic is specifically this so if you can find a good site you should be set. i am however assuming you are a practising [enter label]

Well, I don't study voodoo but I know that it stems from a very rich and interesting culture (of course, most pagan and magickal paths do!). Also it isn't just used for hexing people, there is a balance to it, so the stereotypes you see in movies are just as bad (or worse!) as the ones you see for witches. Though I have to admit, Serpent and the Rainbow was one of my favorite movies and based on a true story at that! (I think everyone should see it, voodoo or not)

Voodoo like all other things in this life has it's good points and it's not so, doesnt make it bad. more common mis-conceptions, i am no Voodoo expert but i think there are a couple around here who practice.

"Hoodoo that Voodoo, that you do, so well?" .................. Sorry, lol, couldn't help myself. Hoodoo has a lot of similarities, in practice, as Voodoo and is very interesting too. We discussed that in for everyone a while back, the two are different though Hoodoo has some Voudoin practices but is a merge of this and folk magics from Europe and U.S. practice, with a bit of Judaic/Hebraic [ Pennsylvania Dutch etc.] also. I 'm no expert but I'll see if I can find the topic as there are some links you can look at, if you are interested. One discusses both in greater detail than I can provide. I tried linking it here but no joy so the topic is 'what kind of spell uses these ingredients?' in the for everyone forum.

P.S. there is a supplies store also on the site and Ravenwing [ who posted in this topic too] has Voodoo/Hoodoo supplies also in his online store, both are reputable suppliers.

*Shoop, shoop ba doop...*

I was wondering about that. I see the different spellings and I was trying to figure out if they were the same or not but had never actually looked into it. Thanks for clarifying that a bit!

hehe...that reminds me of the commercial a few years ago- I forget what it was for but it showed a girl at her computer with a "virtual voodoo doll" of her boyfriend, clicking on parts of his body, cutting back and forth between that and the guy out with another girl, being unable to dance, his head shrinking etc.

Great commercial. but completely unrelated to Voudon.

LOL

Good thing I wasn't there, it would've been harder to kick out both of us! I hope it wasn't an actual magic/pagan shop, it's hard to have credibility when you sell that kind of thing!
