Removing Curses
It depends on the nature of the curse and the strength of the curser[?] like any incant or spellwork, whether for 'good' intent or harmful, the force and intent directed can be very powerful. Most folk I 've had contact with don't really possess the desire to effect a powerful hex or curse, but that does not mean that no one can do so, but the will to act must be strong and focused, without distraction. Hexes happen, magick is only moral when the user applies personal morality, it's not all 'good', many people think that casting so called 'good' magicks will have strong results,so why the disbelief in the strength of 'bad' magicks?I would consider a healing spell performed without the consent of the intended healee[?] to be as unethical as any curse or hex that is considered unethical. Just one example and probably not the best. I am someone who says :can hex will hex, so what the hex! [ sorry, poor attempt at a pun there]
Thanks Sercee, my humour is truly cringeworthy sometimes. Further to the above, most people who think they have been cursed haven't, but they bring about the effects they expect, it's called 'negative wish fullfilment' and it can cause a downward spiral to begin. This is where the positive techniques described by the others here have great effect and I would recommend a ritual, it's psychologically healing, if nothing else. Sometimes the intended 'victim' brings about a hex, upon suggestion to them that they have been, another 'trick of the trade' [ nefarious and sneaky - but headology is powerful stuff, in the right hands] If you have been hexed, then taking steps to protect yourself WILL have an effect on the hex, action and reaction, though a strong hexer will counter any retaliation. This is why steps taken should be kept up and strengthened for a while. If there is a constant feedback, from the victim, it can cause the hexer to stop investing energy, as it becomes too bothersome or draining to keep up. Hexes and curses often manifest in unusual but pertinent ways, after all why punish a transgressor anonymously? They might miss the point and not learn to give the proper respect etc. This is not a full explanation, just a few pointers for the more likely types. I recommend reading and exploring this subject fully to everyone, especially newbies to Paganism, through knowledge you gain power and it's the unknown that we fear most. I hex, but it's saved for serious matters, I have better things to do with my time than invest energy over a misdemeanor, ego, pride or silliness, normal human behaviour warrants normal reactions, a verbal put down is usually sufficient for me.
Sometimes my attempts at subtelty fall on the vague side.lol. I like to inject humour into serious topics. It reminds me not to take myself so seriously. I have offended doctors frequently, as they don't appreciate the 'deathbed irony' of Glaswegian humour. I moved around a lot and one doctor [ in Resuscitation dept of ER] didn't appreciate me telling him' my son and I were touring the casualty units and had just theirs left to go.' My son is a frequent visitor to hospital, due to the Epilepsy and his condition is the type that means he sometimes needs resuscitation[ all wires and sirens - very exciting!] if I didn't laugh about it I 'd cry.
I just despise puns!Not to totally divert this topic, but I rather like darker humor too. Stupid humor is good in limited doses, especially when it's unexpected.
As for hexing... well...
I am of two minds on this. First of all, I can understand TOTALLY why some people feel that avoiding hexing might turn down the witchwars a tad.
On the other, sometimes turning the other cheek gets you slapped. Or worse.
If you don't "defend" yourself with a counter attack (or at least with a "return to sender" kind of thing) , they may choose to use you as a free energy source for the forseeable future. Now granted, this sort of thing doesn't happen nearly as often as some people think, but people out for a free ride are out there, and some of them even practice magick.
Truthfully, the hexes I've used have been conditional, things like:
"If you try to rape anyone again, you will find yourself thick witted and prone to problems with the police."
Or: "If you are stalking me, you will get lost and confused trying to follow me."
Granted I tend to do this sort of thing *only* under very stringent situations. I'm sure many people would feel that I've stepped over the line. I don't curse people who randomly piss me off.

I can assure you that I have been cursed in the past and actually continue to be cursed nowadays. There are no self-induced effects in my case.Further to the above, most people who think they have been cursed haven't, but they bring about the effects they expect, it's called 'negative wish fullfilment' and it can cause a downward spiral to begin.

I also spoke more on causes and effects and did say,at least once that hexes do happen etc. There are a couple of posts here by me that are detailed in that and in defence techniques,generally- without being path or magickal type specific. I like Sobek and Wolfwitches spells,incidentally and was not implying you had not been cursed,but it is often the case that percieved curses,as I previously said, are indeed a run of poor fortune or the consequences of earlier action/inaction by the subject themselves. I believe I pointed out,that[ in my experience,which is my opinion based on my life/past]curses/hexes tend to take certain parallels and manifest in ways pertinent to spiritual/magickal activity,which discounts a lot of mundane misfortune often mistaken for a hex etc.In respect of that It can be very important to discern accurately the points of attack,the type of manifestation etc. to tailor retaliation and effect a cure/uncrossing,it's of paramount importance to take the hex back to it's source/point of origin - I am ethical in that and was making a point related to this. You sound defensive and you've misquoted me out of context,but I understand because I am not always as clear at explaining myself as I should be and I am sorry for the confusion, did someone else doubt you? I can't make any call on your situation because you never told us details - you sound really sure,so I would lean towards believing you anyway,but I wouldn't judge either way without the facts.Sorry I was editing this when you posted, so it looks different to the post you replied to. That often confuses me,when it happens.lol. I think this would make a good general discussion topic,where everyone could give experience and tips etc. It is something which us 'magickal' types of people should be aware of.
