What is a familiar and how do you know...

Postby Ashara » Sun Sep 30, 2007 8:20 pm

if you have one? I looked through the few books I have but familiars are not covered and I don't like to do internet searches because then I end up with some 'crap' and some good stuff but am never sure which is which. I know you all will give me straight answers.
I think I have two familiars. My two chihuahua's Sami and Sunny. They are very devoted to me and seem to try and communicate with me. They will put up with my hubby and daughter but prefer me and will drop them like a hot potato as soon as I come home. Sami will come sit with me when I'm meditating and will be very still, like she knows what I'm doing. I've had other dogs and never felt the same connection as I do to these two.

To me a familiar is an animal you feel very connected to, one that seems to me just another person, like I'm able to understand them. I have a Shih'zu, I have yet to do any magic since I've gotten him so I'm not sure how he'd react with it, but he is my baby and I understand anything he seems to be feeling.
When I was younger I had a familiar that sadly did not live with me and later on ran away. He was a big dog at my aunts in Tennessee. She always fed strays and had about 4 of them that hung around. He never came near anyone until I came around. He'd lay with me on the porch, let me pick burs out of his fur and I felt such a strong connection to him. I was about 10 when this all happened, then I didn't know about familiars, so I just had it in my head that he was my soul mate just in a different form.
Try meditating on your animal and see if you can communicate with them. I've done that before with a cat I had and it worked out pretty well.

Blessed Be,

Like what wolf heart said.. familiar is something that deeply connects you to that animal.. well something like that..

I had this pet dog, i just got him from a relative.. i felt something that connects me, my story about my pet is like this... I was once sitting at the couch, staring blankly at the wall and suddenly my pet dog sat beside me and looked up too where I am staring at.. it was fascinating as if my dog's feeling the same as mine. The second one is my favorite spot, I always go to that place to light candles.. i just noticed every time i light the candle, he will sit beside it, and there's this one incident when a strong wind came to my favorite spot.. my pet dog seems to block the air to protect the candle light.. that was one of my best days with him... and later when he died, I found myself in bed 4 2 weeks... i just got ill.. those were the good days being with my best mate...

Ashara,

I can totally relate! I have a Pom and sometimes, it's like she's human. I also think she's a witch like Samantha on "Bewitched". Sometimes I can be looking all over for her and she's standing right behind me.

I believe in reincarnation. I don't know if animals can be reincarnated but I told her when it's her time to go to Summerland, request a Maltese body and come back to me!

Lily

PS - She just became a therapy dog!

Thanks everyone...I will try the meditation with them and see what happens...it ought to be interesting if I can sit still long enough. I've been having trouble concentrating lately. ::sigh::

Aye, my spirt animal is quite close to my familiar actually. My familiar is my darling huskey/lab, Tasha. She is very mellow, and likes to be in the room with me when I am working rituals. She never likes to enter the circle, but she sits right outside and watches. My totem animal is the wolf, and here is a picture of my Tasha Lily.
