My Epic Poem

Postby [Moondaughter] » Mon Oct 22, 2007 6:53 pm

Everyone in my 8th grade had to write an Epic Poem for a class. My teacher said that mine was really well written, so I thought that I would post it. Any thoughts and opinions are welcome.

Ferrah had all four elements in the palm of her hand,
All others are green with envy of her power,
However, Ferrah worries not,
For she keeps them away with vicious rain showers.

Ferrah thought most high of herself,
And crowned herself Queen of the East,
All hailed her and followed her word,
This was to be until she was deceased.

Far in the west, was Leila the Jealous,
Scheming for way for her to claim Ferrahs power,
Oh it can be done, she told her self over and over again,
It all will start with a single flower,

On the Quarter Moon, an old beggar man showed up on Ferrahs stoop,
Ferrah looked down at the man, and took pity, for he shivered in the cold
Oh thank you, your majesty, for I have been wondering since the New Moon,
She took him in, and as he passed by, he laid a single flower on the threshold.

Now you must know that Ferrah loves flowers,
She has an entire garden of roses,
Also, for now you must remember, the single flower has been sent,
As Leila the Jealous proposed.

Ferrah took the beggar to her spare room,
Lay here for as long as you might,
As she was going to rest her body and soul, she noticed the flower,
She picked it up and there was a swirling of light.

Light became dark, good became evil, the earth was the sky, and all was lost,
Leilas voice echoed off the tapestries and the drapes,
Dark be light, earth be sky, good be evil, and power be mine,
The voice then left, the world was restored, and everything was back in its right place and shape.

Ferrah was scared for she was now powerless,
The rain lightly fell upon her and her whole town,
The village people were soon distraught,
For they feared if it rained anymore, they were sure to drown.

Ferrah and her sister, Magee, decided upon this conclusion,
The powers of Ferrah must be restored, and all peace would return,
With Ferrahs phoenix, Ayden, they were off to get what was theirs,
Now, I must caution the readers, for with Leila behind this, there is much to learn.

Off in to the forest they went,
Not knowing what lie before them in this quest,
The trees grew thick and the air grew thin,
And the sounds around them made them all feel blessed.

Ahead Magee spotted the most famous gate,
The one that leads in to the other realm
Everlore, she whispered to Ferrah,
Tomorrow, she replied, and they slept under the witchs elm.

When the sun woke from her long nights slumber,
Ayden had gone from the womens sight,
The women awoke with a start and couldnt find their phoenix,
Hell find us said Magee, and they continued in fright.

As noon rose upon them, the women heard a familiar cry,
Ayden! called out Ferrah in desperation,
The phoenix flew above the sky and dropped and note,
Once Ferrah had read it she dropped down, and running home was the temptation.

Mother has passed, in her sleep last night, gasped Ferrah in a heap on the ground,
Magees eyes no longer held the light that had always beheld them,
The women and Ayden were distraught, and did not know what to do,
The cried and sobbed, and blew their noses on their hems.

There is no use in crying, it shall not bring her back. Magee said,
They gathered themselves up, and continued forward,
Where does Leila the Jealous even hide, question Magee,
To find her, we must head shoreward, answered Ferrah.

Shoreward they went; they traveled for three days without so much as a delay,
Those clouds are quite ominous, whispered Ferrah to herself,
No longer had the words fell from her lips, rain fell from the sky,
Magee called to her sister,This is Leila, to prove oneself,

Prove oneself I cannot! I give up Ferrah shouted to the heavens,
Mother is dead, and now I can barely see in front of my face, she shouted to the hells
Magee and Ayden were lost for words; they had never seen Ferrah give up,
Once Ferrah was done her screaming, she just breathed, her chest all swelled.

The rain pounded for 10 days straight, and the trio slept,
They awoke with the sun on the 10th day,
Ferrah spirits were lifted, and thought about her decision,
Maybe we should continue and they headed out to the bay.

Once Leila was found, she did not want to die,
However she wanted her powers
She would not give them up,
So she was slayed, and buried with her single flower.

Twas good and worth reading, it's too bad there wasn't a struggle to be written about for the ending. Usually im all for sudden endings but it seemed out of place here. good work!!!

"...But then, one winter's night,
An old beggar woman came to the castle
And offered him a single rose In return for shelter from the bitter cold.
Repulsed by her haggard appearance,
The Prince sneered at the gift,
And turned the old woman away..."

that's a quote from Beauty And The Beast. I thought it may interest you(if you don't know it already).

Well, we had a certain restraint on our length, and I just kinda of wrote and made edits later. I had it a lot longer, but i had to edit somethings out. Unfortunately it seems I edited the wrong this out. :)

unfortunately no. Because the people in my grade have trouble writing things, the teachers have us write like 3 or 4 drafts and then they keep them all to see how we progress. I think it is a tad weird, but hey, they like doing things their way.
