Pulled by the Gods

Postby arcanedancer » Mon Dec 03, 2007 8:16 pm

I'm being drawn by Apollo more and more with each passing day.

After some memory-searching consideration, I realize that it's been a long association - I have always felt very connected to Him, but when I began studying Witchcraft a few months ago, I felt as if I should get to know the Celtic gods and goddesses. My ancestry is Scottish/Irish, so I initally discovered a connection with Lugh - hence my symbol. However, now that I'm a little further into things, I'm being pulled my the Greeks, the pantheon that so enraptured me as a child and young adult.

I'm beginning to "get" the fact that They choose us, not the other way around, yes? Or is this attraction simply because I know more about the Greek pantheon...it's the one I've studied the most...and not really the ones that are correct for me...

Any advice or help is appreciated...

Are you looking for anything in specific? I am dedicated to Apollo, and a bit more familiar than sometimes I think I'd like to be :-P (My experience of him is a bit different, I think, than most other folks, colored partially by recent experience with Dionysus...or is my experience of Dionysus colored by my experience of Apollo...does it matter? lol..)

He is not an easy god to worship closely...that Delphic maxim of "know thyself" can be absolutely painful. And he is a much more complex god than most people seem to realize.

This link contains a bunch of stuff- thoughts, poetry, ramblings, dreams etc that I've had as pertains- mostly to Apollo, some to other deities, but all related: http://fuego.livejournal.com/tag/apollo

Here are some other recommended links to start with...

http://www.templeapollo.com/

Feel free to continue discussion here or private message me...just be warned, I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to the subject of Apollo...I'm happy to help in any way I can but I do best if I've got at least a couple of specific questions to start off with- otherwise, I'm liable to ramble on pointlessly on some obscure bit of mythology or something of the sort...and some people don't like that (not that I blame them...I tend to tire quickly of people doing the same thing in reference to deities in which I have no interest. but I understand where it comes from.)

My take on this question is this: If Apollo weren't calling you, didn't want anything of you, you would probably get a very clear-cut message to that effect. I've known a few people who were interested in his worship who very quickly got a very distinct "go away, you have no business with me."

I've heard similar things for other Greek gods, and have sorta experienced that with Artemis, except that I did woship her for quite a while, and she was a very distinct presence in my life...that is until she vanished. Completely. I've had absolutely no sense of her since- not a trace.

Perhaps it is that you know more of the Hellenic pantheon than others because they are the right ones for you.

It's a difficult question- Do they choose us, or do we choose them? And if we think we're choosing them is it our own true free will or is it because they actually HAVE chosen us, but haven't made it blatant, so it seems to be our choice?

Who's to say? As for myself, I know that Apollo laid his claim on me...though he puts no bounds on me, he's made it clear that he easily could...but has no need to because I did that myself. At the same time, I am, to a certain extent, claimed and tied to at least one other deity (Dionysus) who's also made it pretty clear that he's the one laying claim on his share of me.

Hope that helps a little at least.
