Oh goodness... this is going to be long!
I do wonder if spirits are more attracted to people who can perceive them or something, as I haven't lived in a place which wasn't inhabited by something... other than a college dorm room. Once I had a place which had a non-disruptive presence which felt friendly, but other than that... something has happened everywhere I lived. (Unless I was just picking up on positive energy which was left behind.)
First house I don't remember anything, as we moved when I was 3, but the next house had a lot of strange goings ons that my mother explained as it just being an old house. After we moved from there, and I mentioned the things going on at the new house, she told me that the old house WAS "haunted". Basically at house #1, things would come on by themselves occasionally, you might hear footsteps upstairs, toys having a mind of their own. It wasn't constant, but it was enough. My mom said what really got her was when my record player started playing on it's own right after we moved in.
Here, the experiences have been the same... nothing that will make you wet yourself, but enough to make your jar drop. Things coming on and off, an opened door closed, closed door opened. (Something in the basement loves our dryer.) Things falling in different rooms of the house at the same time the first few years of being here. A ball rolling back and forth on it's own across the floor. And my personal favorite, my stereo coming on full blast to pure static. And then there's the TV coming on or switch channels, but that wasn't as freaky.
Now the scary stuff...
My second apartment... had a lot of relics from some Mexican war (or at least that's what I was told.) It was a mansion with a number of converted apartments. Very old, and my bedroom had HUGE beautiful wooden double doors. One night... I hear someone walking outside of my door. I stay quiet, and then eventually ask who is there... thinking someone broke in or something. And then the doors start opening and closing rapidly. Now these are heavy doors, and even the strongest of wind wouldn't have been able to do what was going on with those doors. This went on for a full minute at least. Soon as it stopped... I got up... went to a friends house... and started looking for a new place to stay! That was by far the worst experience I've had.
The next one was in my third apartment, a condo I was renting. Now I don't know if this qualifies as a "ghost" story, but it's close enough. One morning, I woke up from a creepy dream and see a man's shadow on the door of the bedroom across from mine. I look at it for a while, just making sure I'm awake... realized I was awake, and asked who was there. Now there's no way for someone to cast that shadow in that place from outside. Third floor apartment, locked bar gate thing on the door... no way to sneak in and out. But I thought one of my friends broke into my place or something. So I got up and looked around, saw no one... ran to a friends house. Next morning... same thing happened, but that time I watched a little while longer while sitting in bed. Both times, when I asked who was there... it moved away, as if someone was casting a shadow and walked out of the direct light. One time it looked to be drinking something, another time it looked to be smoking a cigarette. I said this might not be a "ghost" story, as it sounds more like a shadow being. But whatever it was, it was creepy. However, there was
never any other paranormal movement in that place, or strange feelings, etc etc. The place felt surprisingly clean.
Both times I searched the place top and bottom... no one was there... nothing was open or unlocked... and yeah. I moved from there shortly after as well.
The creepiest thing to happen here wasn't something that was naturally occurring, but rather thanks to naughty neighbors... conjuring spirits! The house didn't feel right, and so I got the dragon's blood one night and started walking through the house. For no reason, my oldest son (who wasn't talking very well at the time) became very upset and told me that he was scared. Which scared me! But I tried to call him down, got him to go back to bed... and then he started changing "I want. Some more. Dead." Over and over again. Just recently I was told that it was the neighbors, but I thought it was the Dragon's Blood. Nevertheless, I haven't burned any of it since. I put out the dragon's blood and went through the place with sage and salt water. That was almost as scary as the possessed doors!
