thought you Ergi fans might get a kick out of it;

5 Signs You're A Gay Viking

1. In your mighty human skull goblet? A Meade and cranberry juice cocktail.
2. You just lo-o-o-ove to pillage, especially duvets and throw pillows.
3. You're always surrounded by bitchy, overweight Valkyries who love the Indigo Girls.
4. Fearsome "Deep Medium Lavender" sails adorn your Viking ship.
5. By Odin's beard, thou shalt burn the condos and rape the husbands!

wow. thanks, Eretik! Sorry to have stolen this thread with my family history, guys!

So I guess there are good historical reasons why I'm drawn to runes.... besides the Germanic side of my family on my grandmother's side.

Critical Points

Those who think the Northern mystery teachings stop at the pantheon (Odin, Thor, Tyr, Freyr, Freyja, etc.) fall woefully short of an accurate perception of the Northern creation story. The lineage of androgynous, pre-conscious Beings (Ymir, Audhumla, Buri) demonstrates a little known rudimentary truth found within the Northern mysteries.

By placing the androgyne several levels of consciousness above the pantheon of gods and goddesses, the Northern ancients revealed their knowledge of Ultimate Intelligence (Cosmic Mind, Creative Life Force) as a state of consciousness beyond that of the gods and goddesses. In fact, myths of the mighty gods and goddesses emphasize that they were human in their appetites, while superhuman in their feats.

The energy that they used for their activities comes from the Source of all energy in the universe, Cosmic Mind. This cosmic energy was called Ond in the North. It is also known as Nous, Chi, Prana, Manitu, etc. in other traditions. In Northern myth, the Aesir Goddess Frigga (wife of Odin) is imaged as spinning the (cosmic) Substance that eventually becomes the threads the Norns weave together to determine the ørlög and wyrd of humankind. This role places Frigga equivalent to the Cosmic Feminine in other metaphysical traditions....

Oh that's o.k., the only time I feel weird about 'off topic' is when I'm being attacked...so I quickly unfurl my deep medium lavender sails and shout my barbaric "fabulous" on my way to pillaging..:)

Eretik, this last link was interesting, "like a fish that has no name for water" I like that...:)

The Spirits taught (praise the ancestors) that culturally, the ancient Norse peoples were almost identical to the ancient Egyptians...not the post dynastix, I'm talking pre-Narmer stele.

Haha.Aha.I'm researching that just now.Curiouser and curioser.....?I'm tracking Sirius and the wolf/dog connections also , I am intrigued by Wepwawet and Set,Selket and Bast. Kedeset [Quedeshet] has always interested me too.Scorpion king.I love that he existed. The Scorpion and the Bull heiroglyphs of that time are very interesting to me.I was talking recently with someone on connections,Iberian proto Celts link with Roma from Romania,[Spanish gypsies and Romanian too ] these people have claimed they are Egyptian in origin.Do you know of Aset -Ka,the organisation/order?I think this is a tenet of theirs,They have headquarters in Portugal and are shrouded in mystery.Ooh err, but interesting.Vampires, some say.

No, I'm aware of many formal Kemetic organizations, but I tend to disassociate myself from them.

In terms of the ancient Germans and Egyptians,(other than that whole "we're all from africa, some of us just left earlier thing...) You probably won't find any hard data, what I divined is that the parallels are psychological and spiritual versus blood-line oriented.

well, I'm sitting in a very cold garage, answering emails, so I'm gonna go shower and possibly have more coffee..

nice chatting!

Hmmm. I've heard rumors that the Hittites were historically a wandering branch of Celts. I mean, the Celts did get to China after all...

So does that mean Osiris has relations with Odin, and Sutech maybe... Thor? If you look at the history, Set IS a Thunder god...

Though I think Hathor is more like Freya than Isis is...

Oh, geez. Look what you've started.

The sad thing is, while I love games like this, I tend to like to keep my pantheons separate and individual.

I'm not looking at Gemanic connections, but the Iberian connection is interesting.Hittites and Akkadians to Egypt also.We have an interesting discovery on Uist, in the Hebrides.Cladh Hallan settlement.Mummies were found there. There is no evidence of anything like this any where else in Europe, for this time period in Death /burial customs. The mummies are of a mixed type, part bog dessification, part classical Egyptain style mummification. There is an old story, largely discredited, that the Milesians, who came out of Spain[allegedly],had an Egyptian princess in their number. The time period for this is around Tutankamen/Smenkare.The mummies are dated around this period also.Intriguing. Here is a link [hope it works ok]

http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/archaeolog ... n_01.shtml

Spirtuality grew and changed as the peoples mixed and melded, pantheons take on the characteristics of the previous Gods and later Gods, practices changed and evolved too.I am not looking to syncretise the beliefs,or say that 'all are one' - that dosen't work.It gets you so far, then boom,mindflip.lol.I am interested in migration and lifestyles of the proto- peoples of the North, how the beliefs came to be,I like to understand it.The Kemetic movement confuses me, in all honesty, but some of the information is useful. We are all human and I like the fact that our symbols reflect us,showing how we have grown and changed.I get all geeky and rambly on it.

Well, that's very possible. Historically the "worshipers of Set" had red hair.

If you believe J. Campbell, both Osiris and Odin fall into the "dying god" category, but, like Eretik, this philosophy doesn't interest me. (as well as the Hathor/Freya comparison)

Not to downplay what you're saying Jcrow, but like you said, it's best to keep pantheons separate.

Eretik,

Yah, I know what you mean about syncretizing belief systems, if you ask me, it leads to a sort of religious morbidity, wherein, one finds that one "knows everything" and is not open to any interpretation but "all is one" and that leads to things like the Jones Colony.

Hahahaha...the Kemetic movement is disturbing to me as well, though, I have noted several people online that have dedicated themselves to Sekhmet and other deities, as individuals or groups of 2 or 3

in the U.S. there is a functioning Sekhmet temple built in the desert!!! I view this as a spontaneous mutation and growth of the truth, regardless of the heavy christian influence in the colonies. But that the Kemetan Orthodoxy and such are simply following the male-dominated blueprint in the Papryus of Ani and other writings which still support a hierarchy of religious dogma and do not allow for individual expressions.

I'm all for worshiping Egyptian deities, of course, and for these peoples rights to worship as they see fit, It's just that I feel like they took the NtJr and made yet another hierarchical belief system out them. That's not what was intended. :)

Like, no one should be able to dictate the practice of another

(if you'll note on the website, though the Sharayat have a few rules as guidelines, they have no hierarchy, no "initiation" no concept of absolute deity, no dogmas of "salvation" or "forgiveness"..in short, leaving enough open to interpretation that no Sharaya practices the same way)

Interesting, we went into Jcrow's geneology and now we're discussing modern Kemeticism...maybe we could just tack on "as it relates to the GLBT community and Heathenism....teehee ...:)

It's funny though, the reconstructionists of Heathenism are behaving in a similar way (to the Kemetans) I've noted quite a bit of exclusivism amoung these groups as well...and woh betide the gay, lesbian, transgendered or bisexual practitioner that steps into their midst....

:)

Eretik, thanks for the link, I'll read up on it soon.

Ok... I'm not really a syncretist either.... believe me. But like Eretik I like knowing where the historical lines are. After all, we lost ENOUGH information thanks to the Roman's casual syncretisation of the other European tribes' customary deities to cause me to see red for a lifetime... and beyond.
