Can any of you recall the first 'find' or purchase of an appropriate article/book or whatever, that you just 'happened' to come across when you first seriously started to tread your chosen path? What I mean is, when you first started to show an interest in whatever it is you practice, did things start to happen, [not things falling into your lap exactly], but useful stuff turning up? It may be that one is more aware, or unconsciously on the look out for items that could be helpful, on the other hand... could it be more than coincidence?
One of my first finds in an antique shop I used to visit regularly was an oblong mirror in an ornate brass frame, [about 12"x9", sorry, I don't 'do' metric!] which has the head of a strange looking man at the top, [possibly the green man],and engravings of animals, foliage and the oroborus. It also has 3 candle holders attached at the bottom. I've never yet used it for scrying or the like, and it would probably have to be thoroughly 'cleansed' before I did.
So, how about you? Anything interesting?

Oh my goodness, yes. I scour junk shops,my first 'find' was a brass Siva, sitting astride Hanuman, it has an incense cone holder on it too.It is a beautiful piece and was very appropriate,as I was studying Hinduism at the time. I got it for pennies. I have lots of interesting things, I collect brass pieces especially. I also have carved wooden items, my eagle being my favourite, another one I got for pennies. Your mirror sounds lovely, I'd be using it,if it was me.

I'm glad to know at least one other person scours the second hand/junk and antique shops! On my trip out to a local car boot sale around here this morning I picked up a couple of paperback books in French on Witchcraft which looked quite interesting. Nothing too heavy, some spells and not too complex rituals. Although my knowledge of French is v. good, I'm having to consult my trusty Collins Robert dictionary to find out what a few words mean! The French way isn't too disimilar to the English. As regards the mirror, I'm going to have to look up some cleansing ritual before I attempt to use it, and you're right Elem, I must use it. At present I'm concentrating on the basics again, breathing etc.. Must have been really tired this afternoon [well, it's been a hot day], as I fell asleep during the breathing exercise. Three hours later... :shock! Perhaps the mornings might be a better time?

Its what gave me the kick in the ass to go online and throw myself into this forum, something I ma quite pleased about.
