I don't care for spiders either... I saw Arachnophobia at a very young age, it killed any long term good relations we might have had. Generally speaking, though, I have a deal with the spiders wherever I'm at....

As long as they stay out of arm's reach, I don't kill them. They can have all the corners, all the unused shelves, all the windows I never open anyways. They are to keep my house bug-free otherwise. If I find them on a wall low enough where I can reach them, in my clothing, bedding, or anywhere else I find disturbing, they die. End of story.

And you know what? It works out very well. Everyone else I know has to stock up on flyswatters, and I've never needed one. I think the spiders are all psychic or something, because any time I move, it doesn't take long for old rules of order to apply themselves again. I usually find one or two in bed (ALWAYS one in my fricken hair! EW!) and then the rest do their thing in the corners like good little arachnids.

Further, the lowest Rung in Hell is reserved for them that believe in it on the supposition that they'll go there if they don't.

My first full time job was at a kindergarten and my first job of the day was to go around the facility killing the red-back spiders. They are are big "problem" here in Eastern Australia where I live.

I never really had any feeling one way or the other about spiders as they are such a big part of daily life here. One day I squished a "big momma" Redback (they are rather like a Black Widow) and the sight of her baby-making innards made me ill. Can't explain it, I have very strong innards myself - it just did and I have not killed another Redback in the 18 years since.

I was bitten by a Redback some years later and it was not pleasant I can tell you (was quite ill for a while), but still have not been inclined to kill spiders. I move quite a few of them and have photographed MANY in their natural habitat. I don't love them, don't hate them, just agree to share their space I guess.

I did accidentally boil a Huntsman spider in my kettle once and the taste of my morning brew was terrifically AWFUL :x ...

...NEVER DRINK A SPIDER...

SNAKES are in great abundance here too...It's not all hopping Kangaroos and furry Koalas, I can tell you  !

Blessings,

Athena
