My family has a long history of suffering from migraines. A year ago I started getting them too. My sister has had them since her teenage years where it took me until age 22 for them to manifest.
For minor aches and pains I have always been able to will away the hurt. I never liked taking tylenol and aspirin when I was a kid, so I used to focus energy in my mind and focus on moving an object, which usually took care of the problem. Now, however, with the migraines being so severe, I can't seem to get them to go away. Any suggestions? I've been having a lot of small migraines (work stress that'll change very soon!!) but I would like to kick them in the butt before they dominate my everyday life.

My migraines
I get migraines too and for me tylenol is useless. I take Imitrex (its a prescription and its expensive, but it really works). If you don't have good insurance Imitrex willl be too expensive, but you could get samples from your doctor. Esgic is another good med and its available as generic so its cheap.
Also, take 400 mg of B2 daily and 400 mg of magnesium. Avoid red wine and artificial sweeteners and drink plenty of water.
Massage helps me alot too. My massage therapist does regular massage, reiki and craniosacral. All are wonderful
A cold pack where it hurts helps me too and some ginger capsules alot with the meds helps.
Another thing that helped me alot is accupuncture. You have to stick with it and it can be expensive too, but it worked well for me.

Help preventing migraines..
I started getting migraines when I was 16. They are no joke. You need to learn about 'triggers' that cause them. My migraines take away my vision, which freaks me out and scares me really bad.I also get numbness in my hands, face, arms, legs, feet, which also scares me really bad. I have'nt had one in a while because I found out what things to avoid that triggers them. Red coloring in anything you consume will trigger them. It's actually best if you take any artificial colors out of your diet comepletely. I wear sunglasses all the time, and block out sunlight in my home, because bright light, or sunlight can be a trigger, especially if you have light colored eyes. MSG, some sort of food preservative, mostly in Chinese food, is a trigger. I always have symptoms, like vision impairment and numbness, before the actual pain sets in, and I have found that eating chocolate and drinking strong coffee when I feel one coming on, helps keep the pain at a minimum.(chocolate releases your body's natural painkiller, and strong coffee speeds it along) Surf the web to find a longer list of triggers to avoid, I promise you it will help, cause I hate taking pills too. Hope this helps you, it helped me.

You poor thing! My Mum always had migraines. I've always been headache prone, but have probably only had about two actual migraines in my life and I wanted to die from the agony.
Dehydration can be a cause, and stress. Sometimes lying down and fidgeting until you find a comfortable position can help. Concentrate on relaxing all your muscles and take deep, slow breaths. Also (this one sounds strange) pulling your hair and holding it taut over different parts of you scalp can relieve pressure and make the pain disappear almost instantaneously. I use this technique a lot. The only down side is that your arm can get really, really tired.
In terms of painkillers, I have a natural aversion too. But I've just ordered some dried willow bark that can be steeped as a herbal tea to relieve pain. Apparently asprin is derived from willow bark (I think?) and so I'll be brewing some up next time I get a thumping headache to see if it actually works.
Also, run a warm bath (not hot), shut the bathroom door, open the bathroom window to let a breeze in and let your mind drift while you soak. I find this, along with the hair pulling (LOL!) to be the best natural remedy for headache.
Kind regards,
Bec.
