Wicca is not devil worship,
I agree.
if you wrship the devil, or believe in one, oyu CANNOT and i repeat CANNOT call yourself wiccan,
I disagree with you here in part. Devil-worship is not a part of Wicca, but but many Wiccans are polytheists. Is it okay to believe in the gods of pagan religions, even pagan religions that were almost monotheist (certain Egyptian and Middle Eastern cults), and Hindu and Buddhist deities, and be so quick to deny the existence of the deity (or deities) of the Christians, Muslims, and Jews?

There's an interesting article on this here:

or a witch.
No one's got a patent on that word. It's pretty much a free-for-all these days.

Um... witches burnt in Salem? That didn't happen (if indeed that's what you were implying, if not, then please disregard this).
I guess I'm getting my facts mixed up.

As far as I knew it wasn't that real witches were actually getting burnt, they were accusing people of being witches then doing 'tests' (the floating in water thing?) to see if they were or not. Or that wasn't in Salem, my bad.

The point I was trying to make was that Christianity-type religions went on a big smear campaign to make witches appear evil to the common person. Part of this was because they were healers and the church wanted to be seen as the only ones capable of the kind of power these witches had. Part was simply to spread their own power.

Or am I completely off base?

Oh yeah and Joan of Arc was burnt, but I've never been sure if that was because they thought she was a witch or a heretic...

The inquisition: The church condemed people as witches and killed them by means of torture, burning and hanging, they used such things as the dunking swing, a device designed to dunk you under water, if you died of drowning or did not confess you were not a witch,(interesting fact it was the most effective way of determing if you were a witch or not with a 95% success rate) Gurgle gurgle glug I am witch gurgle gurgle glug. ( Burn me or hang me already gurgle gurgle glug, Satan is my god. Gurgle gurgle glug.

They also used ankle screws the rack and much more. Most the people who were burned hung or beheaded as witches confessed only because death became more perferable than life in those conditions.

Salem At start three by the end 6 young girls playing pranks and using fear against people, accused people of witchcraft, people were arrested on a daily basis. They were tortured and starved, and most of those who dided welcomed the sleep of death over the pain of torture.

Its never been about making us look bad so much as fear, plain and simple fear of the unknown. Human nature fears what it doesn't understand, and naturally protects the beleifs of a whole. It is not christians I blame for what has been done to us.

Hell we have done the same and worse in our histories, we created the greatest empire ever known, based on the pricibles never leave man women or child behind you if they are able to carry a knife and stab you in the back.

All the christians really did was improve what we did, add to it, Life is no different than religion, Our way of spreading our way of logic, what we have that christians have not learned is the ability to learn from our mistakes and not make them again.

The witch burnings the inquisition, people tortured and killed for different beleifs, when it ended both were condemed as crazy, idiotic and against the teachings of god, but bombs still go off in Abortion clinics, and gays are still beaten all in the name of the word of the bible. Will one day christians and Pagens get along, yes but only when christian and pagen alike see the mistakes both religions have made twards men and women and learn from the past and never do it again.

YES PAGENS WE ARE NOT IMMUNE, christians got a hold in humanity only because Constantine turned from the old ways and became a christian, against the old ways who he veiwed as abandoning him the night before one of his greatest victories.

ah okay. *thinking back to movie* that makes sense.

I always found it amusing that a religion would preach about getting closer to God and speaking with God, but whenever someone outside of the clergy says they talk to God they are a heretic or insane... or drunk.

well think, they were saying that the new messiah was supposed to be born a little while back, now think of when this child grows up and claims to be a messiah, whether it be true or false they are getting a one way ticket into a medium security room at the closest mental asylum.

Personally, while I don't agree, I understand Witch1693's response. It's very easy to get defensive on the topic on Wicca & Satanism, when we're at a point where we're STILL trying to convince people that earth centered religions are not Satanic.

But that's the difference, I guess.

If we want to look back at pre-Judeo/Christian religions, practiced as they were at that time, then no, they were not Satanic, mainly because there was no concept of Satan at that place and/or time.

But because the revival of witchcraft is SO eclectic, than, if we can invoke traditional Pagan deities, than why not invoke Judeo-Christian icons as well? After all, the Catholic reverence of Mary is very Goddess-worship leaning, as I see it.

Satan doesn't do anything for me, though. I like my deities a little more...cuddly :)
