When I lived in England, my housemate was Romanian. Didn't learn much of the language, but I know how to say cheers and know how to get myself in trouble :D

Anyway, Noroc ;)
Nice! Noroc!
Yeah, that's what I learn first in a foreign language too!
That almost sums up what I know in Russian untill now.
School also teaches us that(but not officially), especially the getting in trouble part

Oh, you're learning Russian too?
It's funny that I got the idea after going to Bulgaria on holiday and the Russian alphabet came really handy. I was open to any Slavic language, but I found my mom's old Russian books.

I'm not much further either. Listening to music in Slavic languages helps with understanding amd getting used to the accent.(those of us with the Moldavian accent have no problem ;-) )
Btw, Many people started learning Russian. In Germany they're really serious about teaching it in schools. And almost every member that pm-ed me, was also learning it.
And WOW you have over 500 posts already? How? *amazed*

That's nice! I got the idea after I went in a two weeks camp in Republic of Moldova. Which you already know used to be a part of Romania. But what our foreign friends may not know is that Russia took it away from us after the war. And after that it became an independent country to get away from Russia. We supported them, and still do. They speak Romanian, same language we speak, just with an accent. But the whole easten side has an anccent so it's okay.

Yes, I do listen to Russian songs.
Speaking of accents, yes I mostly do okay being from Moldova (the part that still remained in Romania). But some words sure have diffrent accents! I know I struggle sometimes too!

Oh, that explains it! I'm mostly a lurker myself. I read a lot but only respond when I have a question or feel that my opinion can help. :)
I'd love to chat more.

I love the moldavian accent. I get it too, everytime I visit my relatives from there. The one spoken by the people from Republic of Moldova, is even more powerful and I can listen to someone for hours, hehe.
It also took me a few years to finally learn all the words used in the area where you are from.

The two regions, mine amd yours often seem like two different countries. You can feel the change, even from the car. People are more warm-hearted, honest and helpful. In my region, they get angry quickly and make fun of your bad luck( not in the sarcastic-constructive way)
I've had some beautiful accidental experiences with people from there, and the opposite experience in the same situation with people from my region. :-D

Greetings Gentle Being,

I haven't integrated all I've read here enough to make any intelligent comment except - women are the superior half of the species. If it helps let me apolagize for my half.

Oh, gals, I'm ashamed that I didn't know that about Moldova!
I definitely should know such important things being from the East bloc myself. We learned about the country in Geography (nature, largest towns, main industries) but I don't remember if we were taught this? It was mentioned briefly that it was a part of USSR but no further details were given. Generally, the period of the end of USSR and years after the revolution were covered very very briefly in both History and Geography at school. Teachers told us that the events were too fresh and recent and it was not appropriate to discuss them at school because it is " a sensitive and too political" matter.
So yeah, I know about events in Czechoslovakia because they are often covered in media but I have to confess I don't hear often about other Eastern countries. That's why I'm glad to know you so that you can teach me :)

Is there a will in Moldova to join Romania again? Kind of like West and East Germany united?

The part of Moldova where romanians are, wants to unite. They come to Unis and for work to Romania anyway, so it wouldn't be a major change, except for the fact that a passport wouldn't be mandatory.
The russian part wants Moldova's autonony or some also dream for it to be attached to Russia.
The majority wants Moldova to unite and they even had protests, but at the elections the guy who wants to cut Moldova's ties to our country won. It's still unclear for me if and how many want to unite.

Sivana, are there more info about this in your area? :-)

Today we had Romania in the news because of mass protests. I really admire your country's fight against corruption. That's something we should learn here. I really hope that the protests will persuade your politicians to keep on good track and not to go backwards. Still, you are much better than we in Slovakia in this aspect!

It was a matter of time untill we got famous lol.
The government wants to make fraud legal, so that they can steal from us and don't even have it written in their police records.
Last time we protested, the prime minister went down. Hopefully this time will work too. I'm not sure though, why such things only happen when it's so damn cold outside.
I still think we should do what the bulgarians did last year or two years ago: get inside and start a fire inside the government without anybody getting hurt (if I recall well) I bet they are scared to commit such corruption acts now.
