Sleep issues...any advice?

Postby KaidaPyralis » Tue Nov 03, 2009 9:11 pm

I think I'm mildly insomniac. I find it very difficult to get up in the mornings, I'll sleep through several alarms, but I find it really hard to wind down in the evenings and rarely go to sleep at a sensible time even though I'm always tired. I just seem to wake up in the evenings. I can't move my schedule to suit unfortunately, and I'm scared I'm going to sleep through something important.

I am under a fair bit of pressure at the moment, but it's not even that I want to sleep and can't sometimes...sometimes I just don't feel tired and 2am, despite having been up at 7.30 that morning.

Anyone else get this? Any suggestions for regulating my sleep cycle?

You could be insomniac or it could just be your circadian rhythm is different - in essence, you're a night owl. For example, the best time for me to be up and around is the 3 pm to 2 am shift, so I work within those hours and live my life that way.

If you don't think that's it then you'll have to play hardball with yourself (like I did when working 7 am- 3 pm. I'm talking no computer/tv/reading library/desk in your room. Just you and a bed. No lights. Keep it simple. Bedtime at 9:30. Wake up at 6:00. (Or whatever). No eating at least 2 hours before bed. Scent your sheets with something that makes you sleepy. Go to bed warm (I find I sleep the best nights in winter with my toasty rock in bed with me). But that's me. I like my sleep to resemble my time in the womb, apparently.

Betcha Freud would have something to say about that.
