Confused and dont know what to do.

Postby Zale » Fri Oct 25, 2013 11:58 am

When it comes to christianity and you do something that is "wrong" the proper thing to do is to repent for your "sins." How does that work with Wicca or druidical practices? If you make a mistake in life, we all will we are human. Do we lose favor from the god and godess? If so how do we make them right?

I actually really hated the whole framework of sinning/repentance/redemption in Christianity. Wiccans generally go by the Wiccan Rede, which states, "An it harm none, do what thou wilt." I am not Wiccan myself, and I do think that there's a lot more to ethical behavior than simply "harm none", but let's just go with this for now. Unlike a lot of Christianity, there are no rules based on what's sinful and what's not. It's even okay to be selfish, so long as this does not harm others. The main thing is not to hurt others in the pursuit of your own freedom - intentionally or unintentionally. (although this last one is much harder than you'd expect)

It's true that we will all make mistakes, and there are sometimes that we will hurt others accidentally, or maybe even be cruel. However, I think the right action from that is to acknowledge your wrongdoing and do what you can to make it right. If you made a nasty remark to your friend, say you're sorry sincerely, and then make it up with them. It is not so much about making yourself right in the eyes of the Goddess/God, but about being as kind and conscientious a person as possible in this world, to the things and people around you.

5. Take only what you need.
6. Think of the consequences of your actions for seven generations.
7. Approach the taking of life with great restraint.
8. Practice great generosity.
9. Repair the web [of life. By this she means to do your best to heal the injuries done to our world and everyone in it, including cruelty, hate, and selfish destruction].

Hi Zale...unfortunately the sins of our prior religions still sticks to the minds of many. Since most of us here don't believe in a punishing God, we also do not adhere to the idea we will burn in Hell. It's hard to leave behind the guilt.
We are here do live in accordance with our will. Be happy, and tread lightly on our mama Earth, and be good to each other. If we have f*cked up then it is up to us to make it right. As for the Gods and Goddesses...they like offerings, and sweet words. If you have made a promise to them and didn't follow through, speak to them, we are human...they will listen. Then make it right.

I like this Xiao...good to have it here in print... that repair in #9 can apply to environmental issues as well.

Are you ok Zale? If your repairs may hurt some one else you, may have to make amends to yourself an carry on, and as Xiao said,... live in right action.
Many blessings to you,

I am doing fine. Actually sometimes we feel hurt by others and due to lack of self control we back bite. I made amends and felt a lot better. You both Xiao and Firefly made very valid points. It is hard comming from a christian background of 30 years and then automattically change your whole thought and feelings process. I do know that where I am in life right now is exactly where I should be and I can take comfort in that.
