Does anybody own a pet like a dog the've had for a long time, and did that dog or cat ever have sezurs? Because my poor dog is, and my family is thinking about putting her to sleep so she won't suffer anymore.

What do you all think I should do? She's been in my family for 14 years now and is going blind, you can feel her spine and she hardly eats.

Please help me.

That is a bad situation, if they already taken her to the vet, tried to help her and it still isn't working, that is probably the only thing they can do left. My ex lost his cat, a very precious family pet when the cat was only 10. It got cancer and they had to put it to sleep. My family had to put my dog down when he was only 10 (I got him for christmas when I was 9) also due to cancer. You are lucky your pet has had a good long life. I am sorry this has to happen to you. I don't really have too many more suggestions than that.

I mourn your loss.

Ask yourself this. Which at this point is the humane act?

1. Assisting the poor ones transition,

or

2. Allowing them to continue and trying to help alieviate what ails them.

The only advice I can give is think about the quality of the life you are wnating to help them stay in.

Sometimes death has a quiet dignity all of it's own.

she is suffering. this moring when she was having a sezure, she pied all over me and herself, so i think we will but her down. i'll see her again when it's my time to leave this earth and be in the arms of the Goddess once again.

I had a dog that started having seizures, several of them a day....i forget hoew long it was before we figured out what the problem was...she was allergic to corn. (Apparently, this is a semi-common, but often-overlooked allergic reaction in dogs...a friend of ours had a similar problem with one of her dogs, and as soon as she switched to a food without corn, the seizures stopped.)

I don't know what is causing your dog's seizures, but the first thing I would do is to immediately find a dog food without corn and see if that does it. You have to read the labels very carefully, both wet and dry food(It's an allergy that can set in at any time, my dog was nearly 10 years old before it started)

I forget which brand of food we switched to, but it was a canned brand, and it was pretty inexpensive, I think it was called Grandpa's or somehting like that. I know it was sold at almost all the grocery stores in my area(central Pennsylvania at the time)...but this was also about 5 years ago. The dog has since passed on due to other causes.

Well, my dog is very old. she is missing two fron teeth one on the top and one on the bottom. we have to put hot water on her food and let it soak before giving it to her because she can't eat hard dog food.

I'll try swiching her food and let you know if they continue or not.
