No. The religions aren't corrupt. But a lot of people who hold stations of authority within the religions are.

So in that case, is it misinterpretations that corrupt religions?

politics corupts religion
money corupts politics
and if we went back to the barter system i'd have to change my whole theory...
becasue greed and ignorance corupts the "money" theory
and well we know who needs money
funny how everything is a circle.... except of course a square but we can alter that too
Have a good night

that is a really pathetic question, in reality there is no answer for it. if everything worked as intended there would be no corruption, there are too many variables. as far as corruption of religion there are certain corruptions that people take upon themselves. religion can't be blamed for what people choose to do. like i feel the world would be better off without religion not because of the religion, but because of the people that follow it and take all sort of things upon themselves to interpret a certain way and twist to make sense for thier own personal uses.its like the issue of corrupt cops, there are lots no doubt, but they are using the system that was designed to protect for thier own ill uses. same as lawyers, the system is designed again to generally suit justice, but through all sorts of arguments and loopholes they are used. like all things in life there are flaws to the system, but these flaws dont make a thing corrupt, and i find your question to be more then just lame and generally unanswerable(though that may seem odd with my comments) but that question is severly unfair, as it agrees with one of my main philosophies, "you can't judge the many, by the actions of the few"

Sometimes, yes. The fundamentalists who read the bible word for word, for example, can screw up the entire message. I think it mostly comes down to control, though. In the past (and now in a lot of places) the monarchy/state governed the people and the church governed the state. They were in power and wanted to stay there. Enough said.
