magic house cleaning?

I happen to be one of those people whose living space completely reflects the state of her psyche...and right now I am cluttered, and absolutely a mess.
I was reading the Kitchen Witchery section today, and an article that was posted briefly mentioned that, "Some Kitchen Witches may clean magically, turning every act of cleaning into a psychic clearing as well." This seemed like a wonderful idea to me, especially because I find cleaning so stressful and yet so tedious. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with a spell or ritual I could incorporate into my cleaning routine that might also cleanse my psychic pallet, if you will?

Dance.
Put on music, and sing along with the vacuum cleaner.
Throw open all doors and windows and invite the elements to clean alongside you.
Imbue your wiping cloth with the power to banish all dustdemons, and remember to thank all spiders you meet in their effort to keep out the flies.
Align your items to the flow of energies around your house - feel free to go a bit nuts, you can always move them again later.
With a broom, sweep out what stagnant energies there might be.
And remember to curse the sock-eating monster to the seventh depths of hell. Very important.
Have fun

I mustn't forget that! I haven't been doing any particular ritual with my cleaning, but right now I'm doing some deeper cleaning (clearing out piles of clutter I've had laying around for months) in preparation for Imbolc, and I find that it helps just to think of it as being spiritual preparation, not drudgery.

A Kitchen Witch should supposedly think of the kitchen and house as her temple and treat it with respect even reverence. It is a trait that I admire more than share, but I'm working on it. Try to get rid of clutter and have only things that you need or that make you happy around. If you think of wiping the counters as cleansing sacred space it may be less of a chore too. Of course the broom has long association with witches, Buddhist monks and nun pay much attention to sweeping as a sort of meditative act. A book on feng shui may help motivate you- most of them are not true chinese geomancy, but if you are looking for motivation and I agree energy does flow better if the space is neat and uncluttered. I have seen recipes for home made cleaning products that you can add essential oils etc. to also. The seventh depth of hell is too good for the sock monster!

cleansing your magical space, hmm.. are you familiar with aniseed? you may use star anise to cleanse your home.. burn it along with other herbs and it will cleanse your kitchen space. Or, if you want a quicker way, visualize a white smoke coming around the kitchen and feel the negative vibes away.. I hope this help...
I agree to what other members said.. cleansing and letting the elements with you is a good idea.
Btw, I think I know your avatar.. was that Amelie de Montmarte? I love it..

Thanks for all the tips, I'll be sure to incorporate these things into my routine (fear not, the sock monster will not be neglected

).
...and yes, that is Amelie. One of my favorite movies!

Being as how I can't stand bleach (the fumes make me very sick) I use a lot of lemon or vinegar to clean with... It smells nice, and while I'm thinking of washing off the dust, I'm also thinking about washing away any accumulated negative energy.

Now that I have two young girls and a home based childcare business - my house isn't as clean and/or tidy as I once needed it to be. I have somewhat accepted the things I cannot change.
I feel 1000 times better once I have done a whole house cleaning. I can then truly relax. Winter cleaning pretty much stinks but in the Spring you can open the windows and doors put on the music and make it a very satifying experiance.
Hope you find what your looking for.

Feng Shui is based on how energy flows through our living spaces and how it effects us.
We all know how bad energy makes us feel and similarly how good energy makes us feel.
My weekly house cleaning always involves a spiritual cleaning too.
ATraveller I LOVE your suggestions - all of them spot on.
