Pretty colors, have you seen them?

I have been trying to meditate without any success for the past few months....until last night! It was late, about four in the morning and I wasn't able to sleep because my feet were too hot, lol.

Anyways, my discomfort kept me awake and I thought it would be the perfect time to practice meditation and try to meet my spirit guide(s). I kept my breathing steady, I relaxed my whole body, and I tried to ignore the chatter of my ego. It was a very difficult effort, but it paid off because instead of seeing the back of my eyelids like I normally do, I began to see a cloud of purple It became sharper and brighter as I began to focus on the color. Then it began swirl around, kind of like those screen savers that change shape and colors. I was so excited but my ego began to take over and I began telling myself I was just seeing things because it was late. As soon as I had begun to accept these thoughts, the beautiful purple color changed into an olive green color which was not as pleasant. Then I reactively began to instruct myself to relax again and trust the process. Once I did so, it turned back into the gorgeous and relaxing purple.

In retrospect I wonder if it was actually my spirit guide talking me through the refocusing of the meditation. . .

Before last night I never really understood what people meant when they said they saw things during meditation. I just couldn't fathom seeing a vivid field of lavender or walking in a garden type area. However, when I began to see the color purple...(more like a bluish purple really), I gained just a bit more clarity when it comes to using the third eye. I am so excited to have made another step toward enlightenment!

Has anyone else seen what I have described? If so, please share! :D
If you haven't but are interested in opening your third eye through meditation, I found a link to help guide you. http://jksalescompany.com/dw/clairvoyance.html

Hi water centaur

I very often see colours during meditation, particularly a healing meditation. I have learnt to trust the colour I see. Sometimes it is clear that the colour is meant for a particular body part or soul aspect that needs healing in myself or in the person I am treating.

Trust the colours. It may be nice for you to take up art - it doesn't have to be an art class - just get some large sheets of paper and water colours. Have fun. See what colours you are drawn to and make an abstract painting. Just enjoy the colour. This in itself is healing and meditative.

I read in a book once that the colours are electrical signals firing from the eyes nerves, its sorta like a ramping down from processing light, if you wait long enough, the lights will stop swirling, and disappear altogether, then you are a step closer to a deeper form of meditation.

its all just your eyes tricking you. :)

I get them everytime I settle down to meditate, as does my student.

Thanks seawitch, I honestly forgot I posted this so it was a nice surprise to have someone reply.

Aside from swirly colors, I have also seen flashes of white and red light. They are much different that the swirls because it looks like someone has turned a light on in a room....but the white is pure white. Could this be nerve ending signals or something else?

I am glad both Gregory and Seawitch have posted because I think it's important to consider both the spiritual and scientific sides of things. It's the middle way in action. Buddha would be proud!

I read that those patterns that you physically see when you squeeze your eyes shut tight are called 'alpha wave subconsious neuropatterns'. (read that in a juggling book, heh)
I wonder if they would be associated with your third eye? Or meditative visions?
If you've never seen them, mine often are like fuzzy color changing checkerboards, moving like some optical illusion thing you might see.

Haha! Thanks for reviving this thread! Again, I forgot all about it because it's been asleep for a while.

Thats very interesting, I am going to do more research. If there happened to have a link between the two, I would LOVE to show my extremely scientific boyfriend (who thinks i'm delusional when it comes to spiritual experiences).
