Herbs, ointments, anything except pharmaceutical drugs?

Postby Wintry8 » Thu Feb 25, 2010 6:26 am

Hi

Do any of you know of any herbs I can take internally or any herbally infused ointments I could use for severe lower back pain and menstrual cramps?

I am extremely anti-drug, even use natural methods of contraception and natural methods for headaches, flu etc...

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and blessed be.

Love and hugs
Alice

On The Dr. Oz Show, a viewer named Nuvia shared her home remedy for PMS symptoms like bloating, back pain and cramps. Here's the recipe:

1 tbsp oregano
1 tbsp rosemary
1 tbsp anise seeds
1 tbsp cloves

Directions

Add two cups of water. Let it simmer until there is only half cup left, drink while is still very warm preferably before bedtime.

This scored a maybe on Dr Oz's list of home remedies. If you try this you can report your results on Dr Oz's website.

For lower back pain associated with PMS use....1 tsp of dried leaves in 1 cp. hot water of red raspberry ,to ease amount of flow and relax smooth muscles.1 or 2 cups per day. Cramp bark and Black Haw also work well and can be used in combo with Kava Kava or Valerian to help calm the anxiety assoc. w/pms. Black cohosh also relieves pain and swelling in the uterus. Fever Few(For migraines /nausea),Cal.Poppy(relaxes mild anxiety/promotes sleep),Hops (promotes sleep/calms heart palps.),and Ginko (helps gently remove fluids, clears brain fuzziness, relieves breast tenderness),are all good too. Here's a tea for cramp relief: 1 tsp. dried cramp bark, 1/2 tsp. dried motherwort, 1/2 tsp. dried chamomile, 1/2 tsp. dried wild yam root, 1/2 tsp. dried calif. poppy (whole plant or root), 1/2 tsp. valerian root, 1/2 tsp. skullcap herb, licorice or stevia to sweeten, 4 cps. of water...combine all in a pan, bring to a boil, lower heat, simmer 5 min.,remove from heat and cover, steep 20 min. drink 1 cp. as often as needed.
Also , for too heavy of a period; 1 tsp. shephard's purse tincture,1 tsp. yarrow tincture,1/2 tsp. red raspberry leaf tincture,1/2 tsp. vitex tincture...combine all in dark glass jar w/ tight seal,to store. For moderately heavy bleeding take 2 dropperfuls every hour, for really heavy bleeders take 3 dropperfuls every 15 to 30 min.
Other good tips are to get a lot of sun!,stay away from fried foods, reduce your sugar intake, and caffeine, increase whole grains, try ginger root in your foods or ginger tea,and get regular aerobic exercise to help reduce the amt of time you bleed and the pain and mood swings.

The herbal remedies have been the safest and the best ones without any side effects. It is the best one to have under any circumstances. The best part about the herbal medicines is that it is readily available in our surroundings. I have been taking the herbal medication for along time now for any imbalance in my body and it has proved quite useful.

It is always best to consult a trained herbalist before taking any herbs, they may interact with other stuff ur taking (even other herbs) they may even be dangerous in certain amounts etc.... so its always best to consult a herbalist who can diagnose you etc, and not a message board....

I am a herbalist but i would have to sit you down face to face for atleast an hour to decide what herbs to give you as everyone is different... there are so many questions to ask...

What is the lower back pain caused from? Do you have heavy periods? Do you have any other symptoms that you may not think are linked but could be? How old are you, what is ur diet etc etc etc etc.... sooo many quesitons, you cannot just prescribe herbs just off saying "i have lower back pain and menstrual cramps".....

Just be careful is all i am saying. It could be liver problems, anything...

Hi, I think Colocynthis would be of use to you. Along with Millefolium, during a heavy bleed. :)
