I thought this would be a good thread for this section of the board. Learning this is often something that comes with time. It is one of the benefits of having walked the path for more than a few years, both the path of life and the path of a magical practitioner. So for what it’s worth…
Need a good job? Go to interviews for jobs you’re qualified for, make sure your shoes are shined and you’re otherwise prepared when you go… and… do a good spell!
Feel like you’re just washed out lately? Get some rest, eat right, exercise, rule out organic problems like disease… and… do a good spell!
Feeling overwhelmed by all the demands of you life? Organize your life, scale back where you can, prioritize and put less pressing demands on a future to do list… and… do a good spell!
What do all these things have in common?
Well for one thing we’ve not overlooked the need to marry the magical with the mundane, and that’s pretty. No spell we do will work if everything we’re doing in our mundane life is contrary to the intent of our spell.
But that isn’t really what this post is about. It’s about what is going to follow here.
There are other ways to use spell work that sometimes we forget about, at least for me that’s true anyway and I think perhaps it is for others some times too.
Let’s remember spell work can be about what I like to call “inner work†too.
Do I need to make an important decision? If so why not make a good spell for clarity of vision and personal honesty a priority before I sit down to weigh the pros and cons regarding the decision I have to make.
Do I need connect better with my spirituality better than I have been lately? If so why not make a good spell to open myself up to what I consider my spiritual core, one that will make that core open up too, and let my spirituality flow freely again.
Have I lost that “joy of life†feeling? How about a spell to, once again, open up, but this time to open up to the joy of life.
I’m sure you see where I’m going here. Some of the most important spell work we can do isn’t so much about causing a specific thing to happen, like getting a job, as it is to simply keep us on the path we’ve decided we want to be on.
“Keep on the path we want to be on.†Sounds easy doesn’t it, but it isn’t really. Lots of things will bump against us as we go through life and we will get so caught up in dealing with them that we forget that, “hey I’m a witch/pagan/Wiccan/whatever†and simply living and loving and learning are high priorities for me.
Spells can be a big help in bringing our life back on track. They are real, they do work, they remind us of who we are, they connect us once again to our magic, and those are all good things. And sometimes the very best spells are those that simply help us to remember to be who we have chosen to be regardless of what is going on around us. Magic can not fix every situation, and it can seldom change other people, but it can always be there for us, helping us to be who we want to be.
So, if you’ve been “Jones-ing†for a spell I would suggest one that’s about “inner work.â€
Enjoy!
A Great Way To Use Witchcraft
Thanks Serendipity. Looking within is so important is it not? the inner is reflected outwards in all we do, Magical and mundane. If i am honest..i am trying very hard to be just that with myself at this time in my life..be honest. I am as you say, working on the inner, knowing from experience, that the inner truths of myself are the firm foundations for all i do in my Craft as a Witch.
Yes...that's some very good advice, and really opens the door for success.
I always believe in doing the 'human' side of things first, and then doing the spellwork. It does take a balance or real life work and magick.
And as you have described.....I also look at what I am needing, and then doing the 'inner work' that tends to 'match' what it is I wish accomplish with my magick.
It just adds to a more 'well rounded' approach.

In Light is birthed discovery.....in discovery is birthed the journey of power.
