I grow a small but varied range of herbs and generally most of them flourish and do ok. However, I have a major problem with growing thyme. It just dies as soon as the seedlings come through to the surface. I've made several attempts, some I have kept in the dark, I have watered some more, some less, tried exposing to different amounts of sunlight. But they all die!
Has anyone had success growing thyme and are there any tips you can give me?

Re: problems growing thyme
I have trouble growing thyme as well as tarragon from seeds too and use established seedlings instead.

Thyme should be in the sun with dry soil. Fussing too much can cause it to die. Try finding a dry sunny spot and just leaving them unless you water, keep them on the dry side. Try buying plants too.

I had success with thyme last year. I read somewhere that it will come back next year but It will take longer to come back than most herbs.
