Satanism, Goddess and God

Postby SpiritualPagan » Fri Mar 29, 2013 7:48 pm

So I read online that a true Satanist does not actually worship Satan nor do they really believe in Satan. I have also learned that the true Satanist is not really evil and does not do sacrifices as Hollywood portrays it on television.Satan is a being portrayed as one who to help humans make themselves better (at least I think I am saying this right). I have always followed the Goddess and God but I feel like Satanism is pulling me towards it. I have had the question in my mind, "Since Satan is still not a real person but merely a figure in Satanism, could I become a Satanist, still be called a Witch, and still honor the Goddess and God as I always have without having to be Pagan or Wiccan?"

What are your thoughts? Is this possible? Can this be done? Because people have always said, mix it up as much as you want and as much as you believe it to be true. But I just want some feed back on the idea.

Thanks!

I don't completely understand satanism; I need to find some good reading on it. But I do know you are right, that satan is seen more as a symbol than a real figure. From what I understand, satanism is fairly atheistic, so I'd think you'd only fall into that category if you felt the god and goddess were also merely symbols and not real entities like a lot of wiccans believe. But really, you're free to believe and practice what you want. It just may not fit into a specific definition.

Anton Levey used Satan as a metaphor for the evil that man chooses to participate in from my understanding. My boyfriend's best friend is a satanist and from what i've been told by the boyfriend satanists believe its ok to do what makes you happy as long as it doesn't cause harm to someone else's happiness.

My brother is a Satanist, and I can tell you, it is not evil. It's not anti-Christ, either. My brother said that Satanists do not harm anyone, similar to the Wiccan rede.

I have a friend back home who's a Satanist and a great guy. From my understanding, Satanism says to worship whatever gods you see fit--which could be traditional deities, deities you made up or deities from fiction, or no deities at all. You should be fine.

There are a lot of forms of Satanism, you're probably referring to Anton Lavey's version. There are Satanists who actually worship Satan as if he were real. Some transform him into the good guy, some don't. I just want to clear that up. Here's just one other form of Satanism, called Spiritual Satanism: http://www.joyofsatan.org they're not evil, but they believe Satan is real, not a just a figure.

I visited that site and noticed one quote that was "Satanism predates Christianity and all other religions.". Based on what I have studied and read, this statement isn't true. But yes, Spiritual Satanism isn't evil. Who is to say that Satan is evil? The Bible? Christians? Satan could be good and the Christian God could be evil.

Oh, and one thing I'd also like to add is that Satanism is in the Occult and some people label it as a form of Paganism.

If you go to Anton Levay's site, it's informative as to what his form of "satanism" is about.

Be sure to read all the links too. (my interpretation, you are your own God) .. But that's my interpretation.
My advise, knowledge is power, read it for yourself and make an informed decision.

Yes they make a lot of bold, even silly claims. But so do all religions.

From what Ive learned of Satanism via from being a previous Christian there are different forms. However, from what I did learn of Satan he is what is known as a "Fallen Angel." As far as if you can still be a witch and follow Satanism I am sure you can depending on which form you are following. Keep in mind that Wicca is natural magick and is best used for good uses not dark or evil uses. I have never wanted to follow Satanism personally I guess mainly because I have read/heard more bad things than good things. I do not like evil and banish it from my works. I hope you understand what I am trying to say here. I just feel the two wouldn't "play nicely" together.

So I know this was posted like two years ago, but I'm going to give my two cents worth in case others come across this and wonder the same thing.

First of all, Satanism comes in many forms. From the book I read (it was only one) it seems as though satanists are rather selfish and care only about themselves.

Instead of trying to claim a label for what your spiritual beliefs are why not just say you are eclectic. Just believe in what makes you comfortable.
