Hello, all.
At the moment, I’m using glass candleholders in my rituals. But when I let my candles (tapers) burn themselves out, it’s cracking the glass. So much so that I’ve had to retire one of my candleholders.
So, community, what types of candleholders do you use and/or recommend that I get in the future?
Candleholders?
Re: Candleholders?
You could get some made of pottery, stone, soapstone or make your own out of clay.

Metal works best if you want them to burn all the way down. Sometimes I'll put them in the dirt to burn down. After cracking some fine crystal...I now buy candles for them (at Trader Joe's) that have the butt ends of the wicks dipped in a fire-retardant.

I like to use sand, you can get it at many new age shops, or the beach if you are lucky!
Re: Candleholders?
I know tea candles aren't all that witchy, but they're very practical and safe and come in different colors. That's what I like to use.
I started a fire when I was young by using cheap glass candle holders from the dollar store. I think if you get candleholders with thicker glass they are usually okay, but if you're using the thin glass holders then yeah, they'll break and start a fire if the flame goes sideways and touches the glass for too long.

I love using tea lights! Plus I like the idea of using the candle only once and not using it for something else later, so a big candle is a waste for me in many uses. I usually use tea lights or votives, I never burn my large ones it seems I use pillars and tapers for décor mostly. Just the right amount of wax to get most jobs done! Perfect for when you need to let it burn all the way down. Mini tapers are great also.
Always be over cautious, candles are the cause of too many house fires. I know of 2 fires that have started (one total loss of a home) with glass ashtrays and not correctly put out cigarettes, a candle can do the same thing...the heat will crack the glass then heat the surface and next is a fire... you need to worry about not only cracking your candle holders but heating the surface (which is most of the time wood for many). I sometimes place a mirrored or glass plate underneath the candle holder if I am over concerned about heat. Mirrored plates are my favorite, I like to think it 'reflects' more energy out into the universe and it is a cool effect.

I'm with Starwitch - I often buy the little coloured tea lights.....
If I use large candles I use a recycled tin can and sometimes paint them. You can do the same with a recycled jar. It's not as pretty but it's functional and safe because the wax doesn't get everywhere and the flame is somewhat protected as it burns down.

I use glass pots filled with beach sand or sea salt. If you use beach sand you have to clean it before you use it though... just pour it in a pan, put some alcohol and burn it...
when the flames go out, put some water and let it dry under the sun. If you want to be sure about bacteria etc etc, use a steam iron (just the steam

Re: Candleholders?
I like the glass ones myself but when letting my candles burn all the way down I will use metal or sand.
