Hera

Postby WillowMoon » Wed Apr 09, 2014 11:55 am

Over the last few days up to a week or so I have been hearing this name mentioned in my mindset and conscious thoughts. Does anyone know or have any information as to who Hera is, I am aware she is with the Greek pantheon and connected to Zeus, perhaps. But that's about all I know other than working with her in connection. I guess it might be wise to meditate on her energy and see what comes but trouble is I lack the motivation to meditate so if anybody has anything, it would be entirely gracefully and gratefully received :D

IS there something specific you'd like to know about her?

As far as her personality, I couldn't say. I've never worked with her, but she is associated with childbirth, women (particularly married women), and home life.

And yes, it would probably be a good idea to take the time and open yourself to her in meditation if you're interested in working with her. :fairy:

Hi Valori, I am not a polytheist, but I've worked with Goddess archetypes and energies before, which might be a fertile avenue to pursue. The reason why I suggest this is because Hera often has a lot of negative associations in Greek mythology - in most common retellings of the myths, she is constantly shown as a jealous, vengeful, and kind of petty goddess because her husband Zeus keeps on cheating on her with a lot of other women. In truth, she can have a lot really positive meaning for women (and men) as the Queen of the Gods, and one of the earliest depictions of a Triple Goddess (Hera Pais, Hera Teleia, and Hera Chere as the Virgin, the Bride/Wife, and the Widow, respectively). I would recommend checking out this page about Hera as a Goddess archetype.

No, nothing specific. Was just looking to see as feel her energy might be able to help me also with my home life perhaps which is a bit up in the air at moment.... But also here is a dream that I had the other week however where a goddess intervened, but that happened while I was at home. I can't rightly explain it but whoever it was that needed help - I called out for the goddess after I awoke. And hoped they heard me respond. Of course I also heard Artemis, Cerridwen and Nemesis energies step forward to help, luckily for me, as by this point I was afraid/scared. I have an empathetic nature so this is what helped me to pick up the emotion from the dream, although it wasn't me in the dream -- I was on the outside looking in as a third person perspective.

It takes a lot to scare me so I can only presume that the goddess whom could be called in heard my request to help the other person or being in need. I don't know if this was person someone or a tree someone in the dream but it seemed as though a male entity was trying to grab their energy or personal power... so when the goddess intervened, all I saw was vines interceding to stop the entity from grabbing that person's power. And since then a few days later as of this morning and yesterday, the name Hera has been in my mind, so that's the reason as to why I thought to ask on here if anyone had any information or which I don't know. I could ask her direct though, but I'm not really sure if respectfully she would be open to receiving a message from me :) as I do hear more than I ought so am often dreaming of messages or hearing them.

I do think Hera would be an excellent choice to work with if you're looking to settle the dust a bit around your home life. As Xiao says, she's often portrayed as a shallow, petty person in a large chunk of the Greek myths, but all in all, her role as a goddess is a very protective and beneficial one (and none of the stories I've read or heard ever had a bad thing to say about her concerning her duties, for lack of a better term, as a goddess).

I don't think it would cause any harm if you asked her directly about your dream. At the worst, I imagine you'd just be greeted with a resounding silence. Maybe make an offering to go with your question. I really like this website's description of Hera, and it has some associations that you might could use if you decide to make said offering:

Okay, good idea about the offering. :) An offering invites the goddesses into one's life, I think. Same as with the fae, that makes sense. For the fae I usually leave a gemstone as an offering somewhere they can find it. Not too sure what to offer a goddess though. So respectfully, an offering is a good way to go about inviting them into my life. Good idea. Many thanks for the idea. Will do that in the way that's right for me. Perhaps a poem might make a good invocation to say over a candle prayer. Will do that soon as well as another offering in mind. Not too many as I don't know how many she would be open too. But will think on that, much thanks to you all for the links/information. :)

Wow. You know, I did hear a peacock cry the other day in warning, or I thought I did. But I was out in the countryside at the time looking at clouds. So I wonder if she's the goddess that might be right to work with for this time. I will definitely look into collecting some fallen wood as offering, I have already through vibrational message energy asked Oak if he has any fallen wood twigs to spare and got an AFFIRMATIVE, which reminds a bit like K9 but still. All is well, will keep you all updated on my progress with this, many thanks :D

Poem is completed for offering/candle prayer for Hera. Now all I need to do is find some fallen wood from oak for offering although I could do the incense method too. Might pick up some myrrh in town later next week sometimes when I am in.

On a last note today I saw a male peacock in its full shining beauty, and heard a message to say listen out for connection from Hera. So its in the works. Also I netted my home earlier to day via dream catcher method to clear out the bad energies from the good, it worked. Feeling energetically lighter today :)

The month of June is sacred to Hera (and her Roman facet, Juno), so you may feel her presence even more strongly then usual. Just a little tidbit for you. ^-^ Hera is greatly over-simplified in common lore and to me (while I do not follow Her path) she is a very kind, knowledgeable and patient Lady.

Be Blessed!

Here is a wikipedia entry on the cult of Hera which might give you some ideas about her worship. Its important to remember that the Greeks didn't have a single religion, rather they had many small cults to different deities, mostly based on locations sacred to that specific deity. Athens for example was the center of the cult of Athena like Sparta was the center of the cult for Ares.
