Nekhbet and Maat

Postby Middleagedseeker » Wed Feb 03, 2016 9:13 am

Greetings all! It has been awhile since I've been here. I'm curious if anyone has ever worked with, or has any knowledge about the Goddesses Nekhbet and Maat? I have been feeling that the vulture was my totem animal, and didn't feel any inclination towards the Egyptian Goddesses, so I have never looked into them further. But lately I have been feeling a call from one or both of them. And I had a dream about a vulture flying and landing right in front of me. Then it actually happened in real life in my own yard. I work with and honor Artemis, and I had read online that Hawks and vultures were associated with her, so I just assumed maybe she was interacting with me? But here lately it feels different. She is still with me but now I'm feeling someone else and I was thinking abou either of the two I mentioned. Someone here had suggested it awhile back when I posted. Does anyone know how to work with them?

Ma'at does not have any truly strong ties to vultures, at least no more than many other Egyptian goddesses. I would think Mut and Aset(Isis) have much stronger ties to vultures. The ancient Egyptians associated vultures with protection and motherhood - Egyptian vultures were apparently great mothers and very protective of their young.

At any rate, with these goddesses it is best to read up on them through newer historical texts. Older history books (like works by Budge), and a lot of pagan sources include a ton of misinformation on them. So if you've got a library nearby, that can be a good place to start looking for information.

When you become more familiar with them, you can make a little shrine for them, make offerings, pray to them, meditate on them, and get to know them much as you would any other deity.

I have worked with vulture in the past, and I love vulture energy! What a great ally!!
I have never worked from the Egyptian perspective-just a natural connection and research. If that interests you feel free to bounce ideas. Love vultures!

I am the Earth, The Sun and the Stars
And I am the also the Moon
I am all animal and birds,
And I am the outcast as well, and the thief
I am the low person of dreadful deeds,
And the great person of excellent deeds
I am Female. I am Male and I am Neuter.

Nekhbet yes, but not Ma'at, which is what I was trying to say.
