Hand fasting advice?

Postby valerian moon » Tue Apr 05, 2016 10:31 pm

My girlfriend and I are getting married on January 20th, 2018 and I have no idea where to start planning a non Christian wedding/hand fasting ceremony. She is agnostic but has no problem with my suggestion of a hand fasting. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hand fasting advice?

Postby Katrinkah » Tue Apr 05, 2016 11:09 pm

Do you have any Wiccan friends or know where they would frequent? I read about hand-fasting in Buckland's blue book and if I remember correctly you need a priest and/or a priestess. But I'm sure you can customize the traditional ceremony to something that works for you. My husband and I were actually going to do a small one with just us for our anniversary since we got married in the court house :P I was just going to research online and modify as needed. Congrats to you and your lady!

<P.S.> These 4 sentences have helped me and the hubs out during hard times:

-I'm sorry
-I love you
-Please forgive me
-Thank you

It actually is a Hawaiian mantra that is to be said to the universe/God/Goddess/deity/source energy/yourself when ever something is giving you negative emotions. Works for healing, relationships, and just about everything. Not saying you will need it, just wanted to pass along a super helpful tool that has done so much for me. It's called Ho'oponopono if you wanna research it.

My husband and I were handfasted by a non-denominational minister.

You have a little ways to go before the big day, so don't stress just yet.
If you want a friend to preform the handfasting for you, they can become ordained online... I did this for a friend once. I just read a lot on handfasting and watched a whole bunch of youtube videos and the couple and I came up with our own handfasting format.

Congratulations! I was thinking of doing a hand fasting or something for our anniversary, but don't have much advice on it yet.

Just look at what you and your fiancee want in your ceremony, and you should be fine!

I was thinking of having my great grandmother do it, as that would make it more personal.

My cousin had a very Christian wedding and it actually included a hand fasting! When I was researching our wedding, I saw that a hand fasting was recognized as a declaration of intent by the state of Arkansas. So I bet there are more ministers than you think that know how to do it already. Congratulations!
